Award shows are in their essence irrelevant if all they award is ONE person a year per category. It is impossible to say that just ONE song/album/artist/whatever stood out when it’s clear that many do during a year. In my opinion, multiple awards should be given out per category. So everyone deserves a trophy. Got it.

I said multiple, meaning more than just one person should be honored for standing out during the year. As it would be fair because that’s REALITY. The Grammys started in 1959, when albums were WAY more sparsely released and when radio/sales/consumption were completely different. The barrier for entry is a lot lower than having to land a huge record deal with the advancement of streaming and digital distribution. We've changed from having a couple of big hit albums over a year to basically rotating hit albums once a month if not faster. That doesn't mean that changing the rules would just make it a participation trophy. Currently a 12:1 chance of winning in 1959 is now a 40:1 chance of winning with the current system. When having 2-3 trophies for a category would bring it closer to the original chances.
