jeremiahsaint1000 487
cheek to cheek served us the best vocals of her entire career, but this not so much. i stan gaga to my grave but both performances were hella pitchy. she did so many weird ad libs and modifications on her voice that it sounded like some drunk woman doing jazz karaoke, i dont get it shes such an incredible vocalist but this was a messssss

It wasn’t supposed to be performed like in studio, nor she was oversinging. Inflections and improvizations are the base of jazz. Doesn't excuse the pitchiness, slurred diction, nasal tone, and strained resonance. I love her and loved the energy she gave here, but the technique was definitely wonky and it's not because it's jazz. And she did it pretty well. She is not Ella Fitzgerald yet, and she probably never will, but it is still a pleasure to listen to her trying. I definitely get playing with tone to emulate different instruments, but I think she should reserve some of the energy while performing to ensure the pitches are right and the sound is clearer. We know she's capable of playing with tonal variety, maintaining adequate breath support, and serving dynamic vocals, but imo, she's gotten into some bad habits as of late vocally. newtti 156
Where can I find the performance?? edit: I mean the full performance!
Meat 18,962
Not everything needs to be technically perfect for it to be considered a good performance. She was clearly emotional and I applaud her for keeping herself together and entertaining the hell out of that crowd. She brought the whole house to their feet. Vengaboy 1,266
I thought it was great. Really great! It's just so refreshing to see her do something that no one else is doing in 2022. At least not at her magnitude. I can't say that I've been a big jazz fan before C2C and didn't really grow up with that type of music, but she's done something great for the industry by breathing life into the genre and having a whole new generation appreciate it. Wouldn't be surprised if everyone's up there singing jazz in 3-4 years. I know she'll be back doing full on G-A-G-A sooner or later before taking a new turn with her music again! At this point I'm just happy to be onboard for the journey and cherish the fact that we get to live at the same time as this legend™.
SevenWonder 4,282
Her Bang Bang at Lincoln Center is to me, peak JazzGa. Tonight's Grammy's was fantastic. But one step below Bang Bang. 9/10 for me, with Do I Love You one step above L4S. I have no issue with her scat-isms. Some moments in the song work, some don't. But she's clearly having a blast doing it and that makes me have a blast watching it.

She wasn’t pitchy, and her voice is as bright as it has been. Her diction seemed deliberate and her tone was consistent, all kind of indicates a stylistic approach? Respectfully I have to say Her technique was definitely not wonky, and WAS the way it was because of the jazz style not my fave but still loved

I understand you point. At the same time, I think that the most interesting aspect of Gaga's career is precisely that she tries to find new paths, remaining between two (or more) worlds. In this case, she is trying to find a way of expression that lies between the measured and precise volcality of 'classic' jazz singers without losing that punk-ish, rockish aspect that has characterised her as an artist since the beginning. In the end, the charm of her performance (and of her showmanship in general) lies precisely in this: sacrificing a bit of vocality (on the other hand, we all know that she can sing, she doesn't need to prove anything any more at this point) in order to instil an incredible energy, which involves the audience and doesn't relegate them to the role of passive listeners. One only have to see Billie Eilish's reaction to realise how expressive and engaging Gaga can be live, in case one has never had the chance to attend one of her concerts. Of course, that's just my opinion. I'm a real Fire CRRRACKERRR

I can tell it’s on purpose and I understand the appeal, but it’s not for me. I prefer the way she used to sing jazz, she sounded more rich and steady. But the whole stage, lighting, background collage and her hair and outfit are amazing. It’s very on theme with the album cover which is a nice touch. Same here. Her pop voice seems more natural imo. I loved how see sang on ASIB and Chromatica overall.
