The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe : Netflix documentary

Spoiler

As a Marilyn fan, the tapes we hear on this trailer are tapes I've already heard for a long time lol. And with the JFK, RFK mention, this scares me that they'll start this conspiracy of the mafia and JFK, because it is mostly just stories that have no proof and very unlikely happened. So I'd take all of this with a grain of salt

I'll probably watch it, though the sensationalism makes me feel like they should leave this poor woman rest in peace at long last.

Netflix are also releasing a biopic about her at the end of the year, although it's apparently quite a refreshing and feminist approach to her story although very dark and disturbing

The movie about her with Ana de Armas is based on a fictional novel about Marilyn but they added scenes that are not feminist at all. TW: R word, and Abortion

Spoiler

A scene where Marilyn's lost baby talks back to her and guilt trips her for her abortion. There are other graphic scenes where it is just disrespectful to all women who lost a baby or aborted. And it's not even true since Marilyn in real life never had an abortion but had multiple miscarriages...

Yes, I've been following the development of Blonde for ages, ever since it was a Naomi Watts vehicle. I'm curious to see how this turns out.

When they were asked to remove these scenes by fans, they said "no".

Spoiler

Netflix was horrified with what Andrew Dominik (director) submitted to them. Apparently there is a horrific rape scene and “bloody menstrual cunnilingus”.

It's the problem with Marilyn. They make her a dumb bimbo all over again, or sexualize her too much. Read the book Fragments, u'll see what Marilyn wrote in her diaries, her private poems (not so private now). She was a person like you and me, anxious to go to acting class, anxious to fail, happy to love, disappointed to be rejected, scared of being alone, writing poems about the meaning of life, about people, her love for animals, but also her telling herself to be stronger, more confident, to be an 'artist'. Her wishing that people didn't always see just her body. It's a normal person who's not dumb, and not obsessed with sex all the time. But it's all these directors do. It's so frustrating cus most people will think this Blonde movie is based on true facts and it's not. And the whole one dimensional marilyn portrayed in movies is so outdated

Thank you for recommending the book, I'll definitely check it out!
