I’m not going to say she deserves to be dragged, she doesn’t, but yes - it would more-so be for Tony than it is for them as a duo. I also don’t think she’ll win AoTY, but she’ll definitely win at least a couple of others. 

I’d personally like to see Gaga win for a solo album that she actually pushes the same way she pushes everything else, something we haven’t seen in what feels like a millennium.

No offense but how do ppl with ur thinking call urself gaga fans. This album is as much of gaga as its tonys. This narrative is so annoying.

Yeah but even the interpretations aren’t incredibly unique or earth shattering. They sound very nice! But if you’re going to sing songs that have been sung on hundreds of albums, you have to bring it in terms of interpretation. Someone like Cécil Salvant, for instance, totally reimagined Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights on her most recent album. It’s almost indistinguishable and *her* unique perspective and artistry is fully on display. L4S is nice but to do AOTY, imo, it needs to take the interpretation places it hasn’t gone and L4S doesn’t do that (intentionally so). That’s fine. It’s very wonderful as is but that doesn’t mean it has to win AOTY either when other artists, frankly, have put out more original and equally beautiful works.

Jazz is WAY bigger than why Gaga does. Even in jazz her stuff is a little by the numbers, if also done well. Jazz is an insanely vibrant genre. Gaga is kinda doing her own thing in it totally unrelated to the currents of the genre lol

I’m not expecting her and Tony to win AOTY, but I hope they win a few of their other nominations because they both deserve it, but also to honor Tony’s life & work - his insanely amazing career deserves the recognition.

Bc I love and support her art. It’s that simple - not everyone has to like everything she does. You’re acting like I said Born This Way is trash and it’s getting weird.

It’s annoying bc it’s true. It’s literally a cover album and idc what mental gymnastics y’all pull to say it’s not. It’s not a sin to perform covers but idk how you don’t view this nomination as a slap in the face to her previous works that actually come from her creative spirit. Just because this cover album had alot of money behind it, doesn’t make it more legitimate than a youtube cover ☠️

No one said covers and interpretations aren’t creative… it just doesn’t hold up to original works. Which is why cover albums rarely get AOTY noms in the bigger picture. Again, this nom is just mainly about honouring Tony, which is fine… but Gaga just feels like such a side character even tho she sounded amazing on it idkkk. Every year we drag the academy for it’s messiness and idk how this helps their image at all.

Well, like another poster said, L4S doesn’t really reinvent the wheel or give a fresh interpretation to the songs. That’s the difference between other jazz albums and this one. It’s a very straightforward cover album. That’s great. That’s lovely. That doesn’t really make it AOTY material imo, though.

Very good point. It makes me wonder if voters might not vote for Taylor as she has already won it three times (she literally won it last year)

The fact that Gaga and Tony are from different generations may help them as well

I think one to watch out is whether it will be telecast. And traditional pop álbum is not on telecast  it might be something?
