This isn't cancel culture. This is a clap back letting Zoe know she is in no place to pretend to have the moral high ground.

And you do? You think smacking someone is good? How many times Mel Gibson had to endure jokes about his alcoholism, never seen him smack someone

No...it is literally the epitome of cancel culture. I'm not saying her comments are justified or anything, but when you're loved by Twitter not even 5 days ago and now they all hate you and are bringing up comments you've made in your past as a way to "call you out" for disagreeing with a take you had about an incident that happened, it IS cancel culture.

I don’t think it’s that deep honestly.

The Will Smith / Chris Rock drama reminds of this scene from Mean Girls except its Hollywood and celebrities :lmao:

Spoiler

In all seriousness, these losers on Twitter need to get a life...

I have been called handsome, cute, etc by many older women growing up in a playful way. I never thought it was predatory and I liked the compliments. This is far from actual predatory behavior. And she even says she shouldn't date him because he is 14. Why are people reaching so hard?

Yeah, it's not. It's just people "canceling" Zoe Kravitz because they didn't like something she said—in regards to the Will/Chris situation—which is dumb.

My issue is some of this sh*t is way, way out of context (and I do think Zoe should have kept her mouth shut). Again, she's said problematic things....but they are dragging up 10 year old quotes and more that are way out of context. For example, Zoe once said something like "I thought I couldn't identify with Black culture because I liked Neil Young" and then in the SAME article went "it was clearly a wrong mind set and part of growing up in a very white environment." But people leave out the part where she admits she was wrong, and just run with the former to call her colorist.

I think that's the problem with twitter in general though. It goes from someone being called out to this...mass pile on often with fake sh*t, out of context quotes, and more and people telling someone to go k*ll themselves, etc. And it's worse that blue check mark journalists participate in this crap.

The Jodie situation is far more f*cked up. All she said was something like that was embarrassing (completely different from  Zoe), and people went to town on her over her marriage (apparently she and Joshua Jackson split up shortly and got back together and then later were married, but because they rarely talk to the media there were some "did he cheat" articles when they were separated). Jodie's also been there for Black women over and over and over again, but somehow her saying it was embarrassing means she's anti Black and hates herself.

I hear what you're saying and usually I'd be inclined to agree with you.

But in this case, and I know I'm in the minority, I don't mind these celebrities who are chiming in getting their asses handed to them.

People have taken a slap between 2 grown men and blown it so grossly out of proportion. It's between Will, Chris, and Jada. And the Academy can take whatever steps they need to retroactively enforce their so called "Code of Conduct" and deal with how unprepared and unprofessional they were at handling the situation.

Will made a mistake in anger being protective of his wife. That all these celebrities are saying the very obvious thing that the slap was bad, and dogpiling onto him so they can virtue signal, doesn't sit right with me, when they are not holding Chris Rock to account for demeaning Jada or have any concern for how Jada was affected.

So it's amusing to me and IMO deserved, to have them get exposed for their moral failings in the past when they think they have the right to pass judgment on this unfortunate incident.

Fair enough, but I didn't really see Jodie as virtue signaling or anything like that unlike the rest of the celebs (Zoe on the other hand....was virtue signaling). Felt like it was kind of an off the cuff remark she made and the backlash was way, way over the top. That said, I agree, people (especially white people) way overreacted to this mess. A temporary suspension from the Academy for a year or two is fine, expelling him is overkill. Like save the expulsions for the Polanskis of the world (and they only expelled Polanski a few years back).

Anyway, the people I feel truly bad for are Jada and Questlove.

I have to admit I don't know who this Jodie is  So yeah maybe she doesn't deserve the same heat the other are getting

She's a really good actress. She played Anne Boleyn in a BBC series a year or so ago (the racists lost their d*mn mind over a Black woman playing Anne) and was in Slim and Queen opposite Daniel Kaluuya. She was also in After Yang and has some promising pictures coming up...I suspect she will be even bigger, soon. She's also incredibly gorgeous...she's married to the dude who played Pacey in Dawsons Creek

There's no winners here. It's toxic celebrity culture as usual. If she truly supported "all lives matter" then she's trash. But the fact that nobody cared until she spoke out against Will's act of violence shows that Twitter can build you up and tear you down in a matter of seconds. People will aact outraged only when it's convenient for them.

Both very well said.

Everyone talks about how Facebook has caused so many problems in our society and everyone looks the other way at what a toxic effect Twitter has. People spread half-truths, misinformation, and hate on Twitter even faster than Facebook. Even worse, the media reports on what Twitter says as if its the voice for the entire population, despite it being a small minority.

I used to think celebs who didn't use Twitter were arrogant but now I see they were ahead of the game in avoiding this mess. If I were famous I wouldn't touch Twitter with a 10 foot pole.
