YourEvilTwin 1,336 Posted March 19, 2022 Share Posted March 19, 2022 For those who don't know, ABC this year forced the Academy to cut 8 tech/craft categories from the live broadcast. Instead these categories will be presented at the untelevised pre-show, which presumably will happen concurrently with the red carpet. Best Makeup & Hairstyling, for which Frederic is nominated for his work in HoG, is one of the affected categories. Jessica Chastain, whose film Tammy Faye is also nominated in this category, has vowed to be present at the pre-show to support her makeup team, even if it meant she had to skip the red carpet to be there. I think Gaga should follow suit, and prioritize being there to support Frederic and the HoG team over the red carpet. This is a worthy stance to take, and I don't need to tell you what kind of impact Gaga's absence from the red carpet will have. To have Gaga of all people miss the red carpet because of their ridiculous demands might be what needs to happen to make ABC rethink their choices. Gaga has always been extremely supportive and kind to her collaborators. I'm sure all the tech and craft people in the industry would love it if she showed solidarity in this situation. Jessica is amazing and I know part of this is genuine but another part of this is also for her best actress campaign. It helps because she is the front runner now - she won the SAG and critics choice, something that was supposed to go to nicole and kristen respectively. This makes her seem less obsessive and more humble that she would also root for her underdog categories. Gaga is not nominated and doesn’t need to take this humble, no galore, approach in not attending the red carpet. I mean she could be the kindness punk that she is but what’s the point. Film Twitter? Have we learned nothing? Anyways, I don't care what Jessica is doing this for. All I know is that this is the right thing to do. And if there's one thing Gaga is always going to do, it's the right thing. Even from a purely self-serving standpoint, showing solidarity with the branches that make up more than half of the Academy is not going to hurt her in the long run. That said, apparently the entirety of the red carpet doesn't overlap with the preshow so....who knows if it is truly necessary to skip the red carpet in the first place? Shipper 12,905 Posted March 19, 2022 Share Posted March 19, 2022 I think we should stop expecting her to do things we want her to do because this is the exact kind of small itty bitty thing that would make people have a meltdown if their main pop girl didnt save the world or didnt do some ethical thing some celebs are doing. The Oscars is a long and outdated show that is slowly losing relevance and ratings and making it shorter is honestly a good thing. I'd also add, as much as I love Jessica Chastain, I saw some film journalists saying on twitter that apparently the preshow and red carpet don't completely overlap..... which kind of makes it come off as this is a campaign move on her part. No, believe it or not Film Twitter was pretty confident in a Jessica win for the SAG because it was an unexpected move for her to be nominated in the first place. There weren't many who were betting on her having a season as successful as she's had it. It was the wider industry that's been banking on Nicole especially. She has been the dark horse candidate for this since nominations came out, mainly due to the academy's reverence for biopics. What has made Jessica and Kristen both not exactly the front runners in their minds like they were previously is that both films they're in, while biopics, are not conventional for the genre and oddities because of it whereas Being the Ricardos is a standard, by the numbers biopic. It was Nicole's to lose as far as the industry was concerned, but Jessica coming in at the last minute has now just made this a free for all.
