Is Sour Candy Gaga's biggest missed opportunity?

Does anyone else feel like this song would've been a lock at #1 even without much promo if it had just been released as a single? It has nearly 400 million streams across YouTube and Spotify (~370 million) without a music video or anything resembling promotion. It's purely the Blackpink fanbase that bumped up this song, and, similar to how ROM was all but guaranteed a #1 peak because Ari's such a streaming force, I feel like the kpop stans would have easily gotten this to #1 as well.

Unlike other missed single opportunities whose results are more uncertain (Scheiße and Sexxx Dreams as singles, for example), I feel like Sour Candy as the third single would've had a pretty clearcut result – at least a Top 5 peak, more likely than not a #2 or #1. Even if the era was going to **** and original plans couldn't be followed through, I still can't wrap my head around not at least getting this track some playlisting and giving Chromatica another big song.

qu'est-ce que vous pensez?

Yes I think it could have done pretty we'll if they released it as a single with MV on release day instead of the day before as a simple drop.

trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it's broken but you can still see the crack in that ************s reflection.

I think the biggest missed opportunity was not pushing INLA or ARUTW :bradley:

ARUTW is the biggest missed opportunity. By miles.

Plus, we all know that the SC vid is coming this Friday. So there's that.

I mean with the right visuals I don't think it would like a HIT hit but it would go viral.

the thing was mostly cause the kpop fans would inflate the sells, it would have still be shortlived but yeah the numbers would still be big even if only frontloaded

Didn’t Sour Candy do well outside of the the xenophobic western countries? I think I saw it referenced more by GP internet influencers as well.

It would have done way better than 911 and Stupid Love…

Unpopular opinion, SC (and Babylon) is almost always a skip for me. I don’t think the GP would go crazy for it the way you’d think. BP fans would help sure, but I don’t think it would get tons of play either way.

so if there was a Sour Candy MV on Gaga's YT hopefully could have gotten at least half views?

I don't think it would've been a huge hit with the GP, but Gaga definitely missed the hype when the lyric video was released. It could've been a huge hit in both fandoms. At least BP included a portion of the song into their tour (or whatever it was).

Ew, David!
