Unreleased Ed Sheeran song played by mistake at High Court

An unreleased Ed Sheeran song has been played by mistake as a High Court hears Ed is an 'obsessive music squirrel' at the Shape Of You copyright battle.   

The singer looked confused when a short blast of music was heard in the hearing on Monday as he faced questions over how the 2017 number one song was created.

Mr Sheeran said: 'That's a song I wrote last January. I want to know how you got that."

It was later explained that some of the music played to the court was coming from Steve Mac's (Shape Of You co-author) personal laptop, and the wrong folder had been accidentally accessed.

Ed disclosed that Shape of You was originally envisioned for Little Mix or Rihanna, and that he had not wanted to release it on his album.

He also sang elements of Nina Simone's Feeling Good and Blackstreet's No Diggity to illustrate how the melody is commonplace in pop music.

I kinda love how Ed is defending himself, it’s ridiculous how often artists get sued for copyright but I will say that Dua lawsuit recently did have some credit.
