Kacey Musgraves will be honored at this year's GLAAD Media Award with the special Vanguard Award.

The Vanguard Award is presented each year to "allies who have made a significant difference in promoting acceptance of LGBTQ people," according to GLAAD, and past recipients include Beyoncé and JAY-Z, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Cher.

The organization will present Kacey Musgraves with the prize at the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on April 2, which will be hosted by We're Here hosts and producers Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O'Hara and D.J. "Shangela" Pierce.

"From speaking out against anti-LGBTQ legislation in her home state of Texas, to raising awareness about bullying affecting LGBTQ youth, to uplifting the work of LGBTQ artists, Kacey continues to raise the bar for what it means to be an authentic ally and to inspire her fans to do the same," GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement.

Congrats to her! I do find it weird that Gaga hasn't been given this award ever though. It's hard to think of another public figure who has done more activism for the LGBTQ community.

Hmmmm love her to death and she SO deserves it … but this kind of feels like it might be a “pay-to-play” kind of award these days

meaning that there are other artists that i think they could/should have picked first

I'll always wonder why gaga of all people didnt win this specific award considering her impact on LGBTQ acceptability in the 2010s (and making it a major topic in pop music that most of her peers followed soon after).

Maybe because she’s a part of the community and not just an ally

Good point, I questioned as Demi Lovato also won that award in 2016 but that was probably before dhe came as part of the community.
