Joaco95 1,631
In a complaint filed Friday (March 4) in Manhattan federal court, songwriters L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer accused Lipa of copying their 1979 song “Wiggle and Giggle All Night” and 1980 song “Don Diablo.” They said the opening melody to “Levitating” was a “duplicate” of the melody to their songs. (…) In the newer lawsuit, Brown and Linzer pointed to press interviews in which they said Lipa had “admitted that she deliberately emulated prior eras” and “took inspiration” from earlier music to create a “retro” sound. “In seeking nostalgic inspiration, defendants copied plaintiffs’ creation without attribution,” the pair of accusers wrote in their lawsuit. The case also named as defendants Warner Music Group, DaBaby, and others involved in the song. https://www.billboard.com/business/legal/dua-lipa-copyright-lawsuit-levitating-brown-linzer-1235040111/

Levitating has been a massive hit, no wonder these people are suddenly coming up with lawsuits to get some of those coins. But to be fair, the song DOES sound like it stole from several others so there's a case. This could've gone like Elvis Costello with Olivia Rodrigo's Brutal because he knows music is just inspiration from past songs but the more you listen to it the more you find similar things in them. Ladle Ghoulash 20,761
Okay, but full tea: the Levitating lawsuit is clear bs. The only articles about the song she allegedly ripped off are about the allegations (even tho the song supposedly went #2 on the reggae charts). Not to mention it's not on any streaming platforms except for YouTube, where it was uploaded the same day the allegations went public. The only thing that potentially corroborates the allegations are that the SoundCloud track says it's from 2017, but from what I understand, the original publication date can be altered on there (and there were so few listens that it's insanely unlikely that Dua or her producers ever heard this song). They just wanted a slice of the coin and I'm honestly not convinced they didn't fabricate the whole thing. We have forgotten our public MANNERS

And I was reading that with regards to soundcloud, you can update the audio of any track you had previously uploaded, keeping the upload date and comments etc. I guess we should have known better than to trust a white reggae band.
