The Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland is Ukrainian background btw and has stated she personally feels connection to this crusis in addition to being super pro-immigration like Trudeau so I wonder if she influenced or pushed for this

Holy ****, this is ****ing amazing!!!

This may also be a perfect excuse for the political agenda of ever increasing immigration number without criticism from opposition or population cuz it would be frowned upon right now with all the suffering. Everytime they increase the targets (now above 1% of population per year, by far the highest of any major Country already) they decide to further increase it each years and still, they often surpass the already lofty targets in admissions. To be honest i was waiting for them to announce something along these lines cuz I knew they would

But regardless of motivations if this helps innocent suffering the people thats what matters and Im sure at least part of the motivation is still to genuinely help,

im sure its not purely political tho. Im not saying there isnt a genuine desire to help also. But I just suspect lowkey there is a tiny but of oppurtunistic agenda there too tho I could be wrong.

Canada is actually the country with the third biggest population of Ukrainian descent, after Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainians form a plurality in many places across Canada and immigrated in the flatlands of Canada's interior because the area has similar ecology and topology with Ukraine.

I don't think many of them will go to Canada.

This is a bit misleading though.  It was never technically "limited" in the first place because there was no quota on the number visas issued to citizens of any country. They simply streamlined the process and relaxed the requirements for Ukrainian citizens for the time being. They will be granted the same rights as those who arrive in Canada through the work holiday visa program, wherein they are allowed to stay and work for up to two years. If they want to become permanent residents though, they still have to go through the same channels as everyone else, unless they have family in Canada who are already citizens/permanent residents.

No shade but I thought Canada was crazy expensive to live? How are people fleeing their wartime country going to be able to afford Canada rent prices and cost-of-living?

Im not so sure the number will be that limited

Our Ukrainian background is quite extensive (the most next to Ukraine itself and Russia)...

Many may choose to try to refuge here if they have related family memembers that can potentially help them

Again tho. Very large Ukranian background here. Many may still come if they have relatives

Canada is also just as expensive for the over 400,000 immigrants we accept annually. It hasnt stopped people from coming so far

Well in that case it’s good. The more the merrier. Canada doesn’t have a population problem right?

It certainly wont be as many as Poland or other EU Nations easier to just cross but again... For those that have families here which is a lot many may choose to come here

Also depends what u mean by population problem.

We have plenty of space but a chronic housing shortage for like 20 years now that has resulted in a housing boom thats been going on for 2 decades and prices still refuse to fall despite intervention in mortgage rules multiple times :triggered:
