Her band No Doubt was pretty well-known in the 90s, and when she went solo she became pretty big especially in 2003-2006. I remember when Gaga first came out with Just Dance there was a lot of talk and comparisons with Gwen.

Gwen being "not as famous as Gaga" is a generational way of thinking: young people come into the world where there are already big superstars, so they usually relate more with the new acts I guess because they're just as new as them and couldn't witness the rise of the already solidified superstars (again, generational).

I can't help you with the Sephora and Amazon strategies, icon, that's out of my knowledge

Yes, and it’s clearly working for them. Haus Labs made $141.7m in 2020 alone. Not even Gaga’s fans were expecting it to be successful but she proved them wrong like she always does

I dont think its cuz if her level of popularity but rather her reputation

 

This isnt the same as a regular singer releasing a make up line. Things is something that very appropriately suits her image and works so thats probably why such a sudden big release

 

Also shes slowly becoming like Cher having a reputation for defying ageing (at least when she has makeup on appears to anyway) so that also is a positive connection for a makeup line

What Economy said. Gaga is probably more famous right now, especially globally, but Gwen has longevity on her side. No Doubt made it big back in 1995, and women began emulating her makeup and fashion immediately (they were nicknamed "Gwenabees"). And Gwen has been steeped in the makeup and fashion world a long time between her ventures with LAMB, Harajuku Lovers, and Gx (her glasses line), and her collabs with Le Sportsac, Revlon, OPI, and Urban Decay. She's been steeped in that world longer. Also, she's partnering with Allison Statter (who's coincidentally her manager's daughter), the CEO of Blended Strategy Group. Haus Labs is much smaller, more of a home-grown beauty brand. I'm sure that Gaga could have gone bigger, but she chose to start small and grow her business up from the ground. 

Also, Gwen looks better in her 50s than she did in her 20s and 30s. People want to know what her secrets are (let's face it, more than makeup and routine skincare).

It's pronounced "give." The GXVE is because she has been signing her name as Gx since high school, and then it's a pun on "give." Apparently, there's going to be some sort of philanthropic component. But I agree, it's not clear how to pronounce it based on the spelling.

True, in her case though….she’s been talking about make up for literally 30 years. She came from the proper rocker billy scene in the 90’s, where girls were all doing their own hair and make up and clothes to match that vintage aesthetic. 
Other than Gaga, Gwen doing a make up line makes alot of sense.

From someone who has known her: She doesn’t drink. She doesn’t use drugs. She is faithful when she has a partner. She eats healthy and exercises. She makes music for art’s sake, and she doesn’t engage in the celebrity hedonist culture.
