Billie Eilish files for NFT and metaverse-related trademarks

Billie Eilish is joining the metaverse as her company Lash Music LLC has filed a pair of trademark applications for her name and the Blohsh logo with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). 

These applications, filed on February 26, 2022, indicate that Billie plans to expand into the metaverse and offer non-fungible tokens (NFTs), digital collectibles, and software featuring virtual currency.

Billie’s move will allow fans to purchase her downloadable digital media created with blockchain-based technology, downloadable video game software, and other virtual goods, including in-game resources and virtual currency used in video games and virtual worlds.

Hold on, apparently trademarking means people can’t use her likeness for NFTs or make them in her name 

But honestly with every celeb I thought had genuine activism getting into this, I wouldn’t be surprised if she does get into it

NFTs use a whole ton of energy and resources that directly affect the environment, which is something Billie preaches the safety of. It also affects animal’s natural habitats as a part of the environmental change

Space Cat’s carbon footprint is equivalent to an EU resident’s electricity usage for two months, according to the website cryptoart.wtf. That website used to let people click through the estimated greenhouse gas emissions associated with individual NFTs until creator Memo Akten took it down on March 12th. This is important to note!! Filing copyright doesn’t mean she will ever actually produce those products. It protects her right to do so, yes, but that’s it so far. Like Gaga trademarking the wine and dog clothes, ya know?

Hopefully Billie never actually gets involved in NFTs, that would be so disappointing
