Dua Lipa sued for copyright infringement

Very similar for sure.  One thing I never understand is why does it take so long for people/bands to sue for copyright infringement.  The song's been around for two years and spent most of last year in the Top 10.  Did they just notice the song last month?

So y’all actually think Dua said “lemme record a cover rq…”

These lawsuits never sit right with me. An artist accidentally makes a similar song and they lose millions? And accused of stealing? Wow. If you don’t know every song I’m existence ur not safe, it seems

“Accidentally”  :ladyhaha: this should be a diet Prada post

Y’all really live for these “____ RIPPED THEM OFF” arguments whenever these lawsuits come up huh. But when it was Madonna accusing Gaga, you all rushed to Gaga’s defense. Not at all saying BTW is a rip off, but Madonna definitely had more to cite in her criticism than these guys do for Dua. It’s just hypocritical.

Chill, in this case it’s pretty obvious.

This.

I recorded a song a while ago and kept it for myself, never released it anywhere, and in December 2021 Angèle released her latest album and the chorus of the song "Libre" sound very very similar lyrically and melodically.

So yeah sometimes there's real coincidences.. :enigma:

There will surely be lenghty correspondence between the legal representatives having taken place already. The suit is just being filed now. Doesn't mean the plaintiff only became aggrieved by this now.

I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong

bc they probably always try to settle it out of court at first, that way its much easier, faster and generally more comfortable for both parties... if they can find a solution.

Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride

I don't know, I never attribute rip offs or copyright issues to the artists themselves. They're surrounded by so many label people, producers, songwriters etc. I guess it's just one if those people who thought it would be a good idea and Dua didn't notice (because as you said, how could she know every song?). As an artist being actually punished for copying another song is among worst things to happen to you/your brand I imagine.

But, afterall, this is so similar I doubt it's accidental.

Dua will no question win this case

it's the same chord structure, but even the way the bassline is built in "Levitating" is very different than "Live Your LIfe".

This would be equatable to Madonna suing Gaga saying "Btw" is a carbon copy of "Express Yourself", which, BTW is not.

Honestly, this bloodsucking is more...what did madge say...?

...reductive...than anything Dua's done. Let people live their lives. Music is cyclical. They did not invent this chord progression.

She almost certainly will because this is not at all an uncommon melody. This is a pretty general and basic melody construction and elements of it have been found in popular music for decades. There are even elements of it in instrumental music dating back even further than that. This is not an original melody, and it wasn't original when Artikal Sound System did it either.

There are only so many notes that people have to work with. You're always going to find similarities. More often than not if you put two songs next to each other, you'll find at least surface level similarities. It has been that way for ages and it isn't going to change. All this is is a clout and money chasing lawsuit. Levitating is almost two years old, and it's not even at it's peak anymore. Why wait until now to file a lawsuit if you really cared so deeply?

This is way worse than BTW - Express Yourself... :rip:

You can't deny that they sound exactly the same instrumentally and vocally.

Dua is a copycat from now on. :yennefer:
