It's wild and ironic as he hates NATO...but his own actions (and those of Yeltsin) basically drove many countries to want to join NATO (and some succeeded). What a paradox. Russia has a hard time keeping Chechnya under its control, but apart from the Northern Causus there are no serious secessionist movements.

The size of Russia is really awe-inspiring. However, you have to also keep in mind most of it s a frozen wasteland with sparse population. Most of the territory east of the Ural Mountains (Siberia) is like this. When Russia expanded, it dissolved all existing entities and formed new administrative divions that have no continuity to the ones before, so any revolutions or takeovers from the local population are more unlikely to happen compared to the situation of annexing preexisting structures and allowing them to exist in the same form. To top it all, Siberia is an economically unfavorable place consisting in people not interested in Western ideals (such as the nation state, independence etc). 70% of Russians live in European Russia.

He fears being invaded by neighbouring countries so logically the sound decision he made is to invade them. He feared that Ukraine might attack Russia eventually and THEORETICALLY when it becomes a NATO member, so he attacked it IN REALITY. And he is somehow not the agressor.

Sweden and Finland both need to join NATO asap. Then the second Russia steps foot across their border, the US and every other nation gets involved and it'll be over quickly tbh.

We just have to pray that doesn't happen after 2024 if Biden isn't reelected or another Democrat doesn't take his place. I don't have faith in a GOP president siding with our allies against Putin. God forbid Trump wins again then we're libel to join Russia's side 

 

Wouldn't be so sure about that... this would mean a lot more deaths... and this is what they now try to avoid by only sanctioning him & also Russia as a country economically.

I mean u guys in the US are quite safe because you're basically on the other side of the world with the atlantic ocean in between. Europe is right next to Russia and it's so close here which scares me and many others a lot. I mean.. I'm really sooo glad that Biden is now president and that we have the US as our allies, but I don't want a ww3. This needs to be avoided because imagine what that would mean. Even if Russia would get "defeated" it would mean so many deaths - on both sides and destruction... This is not "just" a cold war. This man is insane and he's dangerous af.

Russia has a very strong military and loads of soldiers. My take is that he has been building this up for decades and he wants to go down in history. He has been underestimated this whole time. That was a mistake.

This will not end with Ukraine. This is the beginning of WWIII and until a massive action is taken by a strong well armed alliance of countries it will continue. Eastern Europe will be invaded and millions will die or be forced to relocate and Chine will take Taiwan along with joining Russia in establishing even more strong holds in the Middle East. 
 

I was watching a live stream of a history professor I had in college and it all boils down to an agreement or understanding with Putin to end this (won’t happen) or god bless the innocent lives in Russia that will be lost when their country is blown off the face of the earth and Putin no longer has anything or anyone to fight for. 
 

Also the most important aspect of all this that war is rarely just about ego and power. It’s a business. The US has got away with invading and bombing countless countries because the lives destroyed isn’t a concern to the corporations and people in power who are only making money moves. This is a war Russia can’t afford to loose and there a couple economists on Twitter who break down some real reasons why Putin has done this now and why specific sanctions were put in place as a result. It’s all just business in the end.
