Several Ukrainian government websites were offline Wednesday as a result of a mass distributed denial of service attack, Mykhailo Fedorov, head of Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation said in his Telegram channel.

The attack, which also impacted some banks, began around 4 p.m. local time, according to Fedorov. He didn’t say which banks were attacked or what the extent of the damage was.

Websites for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cabinet of Ministers and Rada, the country’s parliament, were among those down as of Wednesday morning Eastern time. The government sites were offline as officials attempted to switch traffic elsewhere to minimize damage, he said.

A DDoS attack is when a hacker floods a victim’s network or server with traffic so that others are unable to access it.

What the Ukrainian citizens are going through right now, I can't even imagine. The impending sense of doom, not knowing what the next minute will bring. I just read that they are drafting reservists up to 60 years old... Absolutely insane.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the independence of Ukraine, Russia went through a post-communist/imperialist period of more or less democratic reconstruction.

Putin entered the political system with nostalgia for the old Russian Empire and symbolizing the kind of strong power that could serve as a counterpoint to the decadence of Western values.

Now he claims Ukraine's historical belonging to Russia, in addition to lying about the young neighbouring country - accusing Ukraine of having a puppet government serving Nazi groups and the Americans / NATO (military alliance created after the Second World War that for now does not include Ukraine) since there were protests against the previous Ukrainian president and for more openness to the European Union.

The dilemma created is that Putin finds a NATO military expansion on Russia's borders unacceptable (just as NATO finds it unacceptable that Ukraine cannot decide becoming a member of the alliance for themselves) and Putin wants to rewrite post-Cold War history under the pretext of protecting Russian speakers.

That is why he accused Ukraine of genocide of Russians and that he should send "peacekeepers" to control the situation (a pretext to invade). This is also how he declared the day before yesterday the independence of two Ukrainian regions that have been in conflict since the annexation of the Crimea region in 2014 (a region that had been offered to Ukraine but then forcibly repossessed by Russia). In fact these are only pretexts to force Ukraine to accept the designs of dictator Putin, namely to prevent Ukraine from entering NATO or the EU.

What we do not know is what are Putin's dirty plans, we do not really know if he is planning a total invasion or if he just wants to show that he is a valid and strong player in geopolitical chess.

So basically he's there Eastern Euro Trump, got it  I hate this for all involved. I've had both Russian and Ukrainian friends and I know there are people in Russia who do not support Putin or this "war"
