Crescent Bloom 1,078
Madonna's Magnum Opus, Ray of Light, was released 24 years ago today. The '98 LP was universally acclaimed by critics/fans, brought electronica into mainstream pop, showcased a new maternal side of Madonna, won 3 Grammys, and went 4X Platinum in the US. What are some of your favorite tracks from this record? Do you think it's Madonna's best? Spoiler Frozen, Nothing Really Matters, and Sky Fits Heaven are my top 3 from ROL. Also, it truly is M's best work and honestly might be the best pop album of all time.

27monster27 12,748
What I love about this album is how it normalized Madonna being experimental.* Die Another Day could never have been a top ten hit without this album. *I'm not saying that she wasn't experimental before, but it wasn't as well received. he/him/his
gumzy3000 7,191
My favorite track is Ray of Light. I only discovered that song when I was 16 but on the first listen, I felt as if I heard it in my childhood everywhere. It felt comforting, it felt like home. No other Madonna song makes me as happy and nostalgic as that one. trolly troll troll
Lucas 26,160
For anyone who never listened to it, do it! It's a real masterpiece, not the masterpiece word than stan twitter uses for everything.

DiamondHeart326 261
Drowned world and mer girl are still in heavy rotation on my playlist all these years later. And let's not forget the masterpiece that is skin. And swim . Ugh I just want madonna to feel inspired again. I love her so much but I just don't feel her heart anymore. ROL Music and American Life were her trilogy of greatness and then she did it again with confessions on a dance floor but for me after confessions it just didn't feel the same and imo it felt like madonna became hyper aware of the shift that started happening in music in 2006 and I feel like she worried about staying relevant and that sucks cuz madonna is madonna she's queen and always will be but she earned that crown by not giving a **** about anything and she always tried pushing boundaries in an inspired way. I'm hoping her next album is a return to form. I liked madame x but it just wasn't on par with madonna level greatness imo.

It's incredible to know that she really drove home that she was gonna be the pop star to bring the underground mainstream (As we saw with the releases of Music, American Life, and Confessions on a Dance Floor). Crescent Bloom 1,078
This not being on ROL really breaks my heart. If you ROL stans have never heard this song, please listen to it. It literally sounds like it could've easily fit right before Frozen.

All three are experimental in sound, but lyrically feel very raw. Ray of Light is optimism, Music is gratitude, and American Life is realism/pessimism. The rest I can appreciate (before them) and the ones after it I have no interest in. I agree all 4 of them are absolutely stellar with ROL taking the cake as the goat
