27monster27 15,918 Posted February 22, 2022 Share Posted February 22, 2022 After a startling speech earlier today in which Putin recognized the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Russia has now sent "Peacekeeping forces" into both of the breakaway states. This is also coming on the heels of Putin continuing his rhetoric claiming that Ukraine is not a true country, as well as conflict arising in the break away states. It’s probably his philosophy and mindset in life. Why do those in power do these things rather than resolve things peacefully? Ukraine has some of the most productive soil in the world. It’s also largely because Ukraine does not want to be within Russia’s sphere of influence. The last pro-Russian President (who was also corrupt and authoritarian) was ousted from government. Since then Ukraine has democratically elected governments that are pro-EU. Ukraine was moving from Russian influence to pro-EU and NATO, Putin wants to bring back USSR and it's sphere of influence, Ukraine has many natural resources, Putin is loosing popularity in Russia and war makes him more popular and loved by russians, Putin is afraid that if Ukraine entered EU and their life would improve Russians will see that he is telling lies about life in EU and the West.... There are actually many reasons which can be summed up as Putin wants his very rich and powerfull life to continue forever and he is willing to spare many innocent lives to have it. He did the same with Crimea and the land annexed from Georgia as well, the "independence" ended with the land merging into Russia. Putin is trying to justify bringing Russian military into Ukraine and if Ukraine does something about it he will blame the country for starting the war.
