Werk 13,166
The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Showrunners Address Backlash To Diverse Casting When Amazon first released a collection of almost two dozen new character posters, one poster in particular drew the ire of some of the absolute worst internet trolls when posted on Twitter, simply because the character's barely visible hands revealed a person of color in the cast. The fact that the resulting onslaught of racist replies forced the official "Rings of Power" account to take the step of hiding some of the most appalling responses says it all. Instances like this didn't escape the notice of the creative team behind the show, who took the opportunity afforded by our first real look at the series to address their commitment to diversifying "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." https://www.slashfilm.com/763662/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power-showrunners-address-backlash-to-diverse-casting/ The replies... pussycat 3,513
Omg the comments are disgusting. So sad in 2022. They are just racists in disguise tbh, saying it's not canon to include POC? Be ashamed
badfaith 5,673
This is disgusting. Why do these people always think that there can only be one race in a community or world, in a fantasy world no less, where you suspend your disbelief for magic, dragons, elves, trolls? Reality 71,878
Geek communities/fandoms can be the worst sometimes. Any time a POC, LGBTQ, female, etc. character makes an appearance they cry about it and it's honestly disgusting and annoying. freebit 6,117
Disgusting behavior. Sad that there's people out there like that, racists are a scounge. It reminds me of this comment I saw where someone was like (to paraphrase) "isn't it interesting that a lot of fantasy worlds only involve all white people." 9 minutes ago, Reality said: Geek communities/fandoms can be the worst sometimes. A lot of them don't want the stories to reflect anything but the straight white male experience (*yawn*). Like they don't get enough of that elsewhere. gumzy3000 6,925
For example, if you make a movie and have a black person play Martin Luther then that would be weird and not okay as he is a real historical figure. But we are talking about a fantasy movie... elves and dwarfs are not even real so there skin colour shouldn't matter at all. trolly troll troll

Fanta 5,019
Color me shocked. I am not surprised there is backlash, the same fandom was in a huge uproar (many years ago) when a scene leaked of Arwen (one of the two 'main' female characters in the original movies, out of only 3 women) fighting in the second film's major battle because it wasn't in the books. The scene, of course, got deleted. The LoTR fandom should be more concerned with the quality of the upcoming series and why everything looks like a digital backdrop. That aside, Black people deserve to be represented in the fantasy genre a lot more - and not just be used as 'token casting' in franchises that never made a place for them to begin with. There is so much culture, religion and land representing Black people that can be used as inspiration. Viola Davis is starring in a new film called The Woman King. I'm not sure if it is fantasy too, but it seems like a promising start!

Each time Gaga was rumored for a Marvel many persons were pissed off and I'm sure it's cause they see her as a singer for the gays lmao... They only seem happy if the woman newcomer's a sex symbol like with Scarlett Johansson. Same when Gaga's music was chosed to be played before an European football final match here, the comments were nearly all complaints. 😂
