Comedian Dave Chapelle is currently making headlines for bullying his hometown Yellow Springs, Ohio into axing an affordable housing project that is close too close for his own comfort to his home and office. In the townhall video, an excerpt of it has gone viral on Twitter, he called the city counsils "clowns" for making him "audition" and vowing to pull any infrastructure investments he had planned in the city and relocating his "64 million dollar" business to another city.

After his appearance, the town council immediately gave in to his demands and axed the plans.

The houses in question will be built regardless, however they will now go on full on price for $300,000+ per condo instead.

This is so, so sad. I was fuming when I read this yesterday.

Something is so wrong in our political system (and our values system) that this can happen.

Wow, he’s actually a thru and thru POS. The fact he showed up just for this… He’s completely dead to me. NIMBY Libs are some of the worst kind of hypocrites out there.

Lord universe, why do we have to deal with this?

Please give us equality, peace, health, happiness, love, kindness and a right mind to do what is right for all.

Wow, I usually like to give him the benefit of the doubt and whatnot, but there’s no other way to view this than really disappointing. It’s his money to invest or whatever, but jeez. This is scummy.

Economy

among other factors NIMBYs have become a huge factor and nuisance in not beung able to get any projects done or if they do get done they are delayed in court and their cost increased

Sometimes i think society has a little too much freedom sorry but thats what i think... Sometimes just let the government do what it decided is best and stop always getting in the f*cking way

We elect government to run things and try to get things done. Its hard enough already passing and doing things with the way opposition etc runs in government cuz thats just the way it is

We dont need to add to disfunction by having every single investment decision to always be protested and held up in court (or in this case social pressure) because a few local neighbours dont agree. A democracy means u have power with ur voting ballot, it does not mean that u should demand a referendum or try to block every municipal decision the government makes that it feels is in the best interests of its citizens

Ppl need somewhere to live and housing is squeezing everyones budgets to the brink. Think about that rather than just whether or not some affordable housing or new condo looks nice in your neighbourhood or not.

If ur priveledged enough to have a concern on how a development will look in ur houses neighbourhood scenery than u have a problem most people would gladly swap their problems for :madge:
