Kim Kardashian has been accused of 'blackfishing' in Vogue, modelling traditional African hairstyles and dons outfits similar to those worn by black icons. The edition was released this week during America's Black History Month but as magazines are printed a month in advance it is the March issue.

Naomi Campbell liked an Instagram post that accused Kim of cultural appropriation and brought up the many times she has copied the supermodel's style.

Hmm, this should be interesting. Will GGD users finally accept the term since an iconic Black woman in fashion and pop culture agrees with the claims, or will they once again denounce its meaning and say 'there are more important things'? The saga continues~

As for the topic at hand, I've always called out Kim and her family for their bottom-of-the-barrel-scraping approach to ripping off black people and black-fishing. It is the one thing she'll never address. Also, she was not born with 'tan skin', she had a pale olive skin tone.

Kim K is just annoying as hell to me. She's just a weirdo, nothing else. Also the fact she mentions Salma Hayek and being like "i could finally see someone who looks like me". Salma is mexican honey, and your ass was flat you just did a BBL, we're not dumb

I have questions

1.)When did a wig become a traditional African hairstyle?.  Or are they referring to the top knot ? When did top knots become a traditional African hairstyle?

2.) Isn't noami a model ? Isn't the point of her wearing clothes on the runway to make other people want to wear it too. And every body has worn the versace corset dress even gaga

Hmm, while I agree that she's blackfishing in a lot of domains with her hair, makeup etc, here these are mostly pictures where they're both wearing the same clothes. Naomi is a model, of course she wears clothes that will later be worn by other people, that's the point :oprah:

The only GGD member who can read / Credits to Celloo Deng for the profile pic!

Naomi has literally worn straight long wigs and permed her hair to be straight for 30 years- and that is not traditionally “black or African” hair. She is a fantastic model, but she models European design culture. There is nothing traditionally African about her style. Kim, however has vultured off of styles of black people, but Naomi is not a good example of this.

I don't like Kim but this is a REACH

Wearing the same clothes a black person also wore is not blackfishing. Those clothes weren't even made by black people...

Only thing is that she didn’t say that, she said she found someone she could look up to. Just like I look up to Gaga even though I’m Mexican? Learn to read honey, misinformation is the biggest societal cancer nowadays.

These are legitimate questions. Which traditional African hairstyle did she appropriate? What's really obtuse is people making baseless claims without any fact to back it up . Iv looked at the entire spread and there's no traditional African hairstyle worn by kim. And dressing like black icons is not cultural appropriation. There's nothing culturally symbolic about any of  these outfits worn by noami.

Kim can definitely pass for a Latina.  As a matter of fact, when I first became aware of who she was I thought she was Latina.
