connorfilm 7,295
Yeah, she’s going to be totally fine. The film industry likes her. It was just a super competitive year and her fantastic performance was ultimately in a film that got very average/meh reviews. Her Moonstruck will come sooner or later.! RichAssPiss 4,932
I don't think this was a personal snub. Just how the voting shook out. Gucci was a very divisive film and I don't think a lot of voters took it that seriously in the major categories. The ballots are also ranked and I suspect gaga struggled because she did not get a lot of number 1 votes but instead was ranked in the middle or lower down the ballot. I suspect Gaga was the 4th or 5th choice for a lot of people...and in ranked voting that hurts. Theoretically, more people could have voted for Gaga in their top 5 than some of the other candidates...but if Gaga was on the bottom of their top 5 list and those other candidates, who might have received less votes, were towards the top....Gaga could still lose. It's the most realistic explanation of how Balfe and Gaga both were snubbed despite being two of the most popular vote getters at BAFTA (where it isn't ranked choice) and hitting all of the other precursors. I know film twitter (and some of the journalists active on it) dislike her (and will probably try and spin this as people thinking she sucks, etc.).... but she clearly has won over a big chunk of the industry considering the SAG/BAFTA recognition. Plus, people like Campion and Shrader have both praised her...
