Hospital Discharges 95 Year Old In Frigit Cold Weather In Only A Gown

Canadian Hospital in London Ontario put clothes of a 95 year old patient with dementia in a bag and sent her out wearing only a hospital gown when it was -10C outside (14F)

 

Her grandson was shocked when he went to pick up his grandmother that shed be discharged like that especially on such a cold winter day

 

To add to that the man claims the staff member that handed him his grandmother said "she was not happy with this difficult patient and that she was now his problem"

The amount of abuse and neglect the elderly have to put up with and if they have mental illness like alzheimers or another form of dementia even worse cuz no one ever has loving patience with them

Patients with illnesses like alzheimers/dementia should always be discharged upon collection, not discharged for collection IMO. My grandmother had dementia and she could be so difficult at times, so I get the hospital might want them out ASAP, but she was still a human.

We are all gonna be elderly one day. Imagine how you’d feel being treated like this after years of working, life experiences…you just want to relax and enjoy your golden years. It breaks my heart people disregard the elderly automatically/put them aside.

ok I initially thought she was just outside in her gown waiting but she was brought out when he arrived... just in the gown which is still not right but a lot less evil than I thought. Should've at least put a blanket on her until she was in the car.

God if it was that, id say instant law suit

 

Still tho, even bringing someone (especially so elderly) outside like that even if its for a brief moment is so unsettling and neglectful

Things like this are honestly why my grandma will never put my grandad in a home no matter how much his dementia puts her through day in day out.

Its always easy for family members to approach the media to blow up their discontent with care that has or hasn’t been given.

I have had some serious complaints from some families who didn’t ‘agree’ with my nursing - just because I give everybody equal care. 
 

As an essential worker you are always vulnerable.

If you think it's okay for a 95 year old woman with dementia to be thrown of out a hospital, you need to be fired and permanently banned from working in health care ever again.

It doesnt appear she was thrown out per say. It was when she was getting picked up. 

 

Still tho i agree. Even for brief periods while walking to car, sending out a 95 year old in -10C weather in a hospital gown (those thin things hold like no heat whatsoever) is ludicrus.

I get that due to staffing shortages it is often impossible to take care of ppl the way they should be and family gets upset etc

 

But this isnt ur average someone waited longer than they should have to get their diapers changed by their nurse... or having to wait longer for their meal or water than ideal because the nurses were too busy

 

This is frigit weather and u send a frail 95 year old outside in that hospital uniform that holds little heat... Thats not something a nurse overlooks because they were too busy thats straight up neglect
