Idk how adults of the LGBTQ+ community could possibly defend this. Like I wish sexual orientation was talked about in school and maybe it would have normalized it for me and gave me the courage to come out sooner than 19. Instead I spent all of my teens suppressing my identity, muting my personality, and cutting off parts of myself into pieces out of fear. And we’ll now I have chronic depression, anxiety, addictive personality, and low key borderline features lol. I literally attribute that to the trauma of being in a rural conservative area that had me feeling threatened to even exist on a daily basis. But yes the ~~~liberals~~~~ are here to destroy our childrens lives. Check

Number 2, when has Disney been an expressed ally? Rainbow stuff for pride? Allowing a *maybe* gay character in a cartoon? Lemme go flag down Jiffy Lube. I'm sure they've done as much for gay people as Disney.

Where am I pissing on anyone? That's the issue I have with some of y'all, you simply cannot handle the fact that I'm a gay man who doesn't blindly follow the Democrats. I'm not the one flying off the handle every time an opposing position is brought up, I'm always the one getting attacked with unnecessary vitriol. I've lived in a rural area all of my life (except the five years I lived in Orlando) and never experienced any sort of trauma or abuse because I was gay. As a matter of fact, the only abusive behavior I've ever had is from fellow gays themselves because I don't conform to their ways. It's telling the so-called enemy are conservatives but the majority of the attacks come from within

They're... prohibited from talking about gay people. This is like academic Don't Ask Don't Tell or gay Abstinence failure speech in sexual education. It's  attempting to erase our experiences and exposure on the world. Queer kids need that exposure. Everyone does so we're not so other'd and abused.

Honestly, you get called out so often because rehashing this is exhausting. You talk up red states and the people in them, but we have cold, hard experiences that make us stand against them. Plus it doesn't help that anti-LGBT is literally a talking point of republicans so I'm not sure why you don't understand why you're ostracized for openly supporting them.

I already know this about you because you’ve shared it elsewhere on this forum. So you’re saying since YOU had an easy time, f*ck everybody else? I’m happy for you that life wasn’t difficult but I’m sorry that’s an anomaly for so many queers. So many kids are in school today hearing about this, and it’s traumatizing. I don’t hate you for being a conservative queer person but I simply can’t understand how you can’t use some empathy and put down your anecdotal experience and recognize that it’s not generalizable to the entire LGBTQ+ community. We should prioritize those who suffer and try to uplift them. It’s literally not about you, I fear. It’s about kids who are living in florida today hearing this news and receiving yet another message from society that they can go f*ck themselves for being who they are. 
 

banning discussions of lgbtq+ topics is insane and if you can’t see that…. Fine but it’s not a democrat VS republican issue it’s a human dignity issue.  Nobody is trying to shove sexual orientation down kindergarteners throats on a systematic level. You’re so caught up in bipartisan rivalry you really are just as bad as the liberals you detest so much. 
 

and every thread you express your opinion in involves some form of passive aggression or hostility towards people you disagree with, but then you say you hate liberals for doing the same. Regardless of Disney’s official stance or other activism efforts, by continuing to bring billions of tourism revenue into Florida despite the state passing legislation like this makes some of their other efforts seem hollow. Hence the concept of Rainbow Capitalism.

The truthful answer is privilege.

While I am from a lower middle class family, my last name carries quite a bit of power in my hometown. No one dares "come for me", as the kids say, because of the connections my family has. Everyone in town knows that I'm the "gay [insert last name] kid" and while they may sneer behind my back, they wouldn't dream of saying it to my face. This was the case even in high school, back in the mid-2000s when being gay wasn't as cool as it is today. They know my most of my family, and a good chunk of our social circle, despite being conservative are very pro-gay; they'd have no leg to stand on.

Case in point, my aunt was furious we didn't invite her to my wedding reception in September, cause she's a total c u next Tuesday. She was so pressed, she started trashing my mom around the town to anyone who'd listen. The joke was on her, though, because not only did she get ostracized from most family events, she even got in trouble at work  I also never have to worry about being fired for being the flaming gay teacher because my brother knows the HR director of my district.

Every experience I've had as gay man in the south has been the opposite of everyone I know. So, it's hard for me to see things from a "trauma" perspective because I've never been targeted for my sexuality. I am comfortably queer in the boondocks.
