Grindr Scammer Jailed For Blackmailing Crime

After having consensual sex with his victims, 28-year-old Anouar Sabbar would claim he was actually an escort and demand payment for his visit.

He stole £2,360 from his victims between April 2019 and June 2021, the Metropolitan Police said.

Sabbar, from south London, had pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court to robbery, theft, blackmail and fraud.

At least nine victims were duped by Sabbar, who would edit his Grindr profile after arriving for a hook-up.

After having consensual sex, he would show the men his updated profile that then advertised a £180-an-hour rate for escorting services, police said.

He told one victim who refused to pay: "They are coming. I didn't want to do this to you, but it looks like we will have to break your face."

He threatened to expose another victim by sending screenshots of their conversations to the man's girlfriend.

In some cases, Sabbar stole jewellery from the men's homes.

Sabbar, of Southwark, south London, was arrested with his girlfriend in a hotel in July 2021.

Grindr really has some dark people that get on there, there is a British drama called Four Lives I highly recommend watching it's disgraceful what happened to four innocent boys.

It's a crying shame that evil people like this infiltrate apps like Grindr to carry out their gross crimes. Be safe when you're meeting up for sex. I know it may be awkward, but tell a friend where you'll be. When I lived in Orlando and would meet guys online or at the bar, I'd always tell my best friend where I was going. He'd do the same for me.

A while ago, one of the boys from my college was murdered on a Grindr hookup. The murderer was also from the same college but he graduated years ago.

I know but it only mentions that bit at the very end after exclusively talking about him being an escort/scammer for men on Grindr so I thought it was funny Makes the part about him threatening to expose someone's sexuality and cheating to their girlfriend that much more interesting

Three of the victims (separately) contacted the police. They each had bits of information/evidence (i.e. screenshots, recollections of conversations, descriptions of the man) that was enough to put together a case. 

"An officer investigating a robbery of one the victim’s in Tower Hamlets identified Sabbar as the suspect. She then compared similar offences and identified Sabbar from various phone numbers, addresses, aliases and usernames used. Once it was determined Sabbar was the suspect for the offences, a manhunt to arrest him began."

That's good multiple people reported him and they made a case. In my mind something like this would happen, you go to the police and they shrug their shoulders/tell you to be careful. Love that he was caught!
