There are countless vaccinated people (e.g. partner of a citizen living here, family members of new citizens or permanent residents), who have genuine & compelling reasons to enter Australia (e.g to farewell a dying loved one, to meet a new grandchild, simply to see their families, partners after 2 years of border closures) who are being denied exemptions without explanation even though their reasoning for wanting to enter here is valid. His elitism & wealth gets him in for a Tennis tournament.. this whole saga makes my country look like a circus. People here are tired of there being one set of rules for us who live here (at the moment vaccinated people can’t go & visit dying family in hospitals for example..) & another for the rich & famous. If he does end up playing.. they’ll have to bulk up security at his matches because people have legit become crazy here because of all these ridiculous rules. It’ll get ugly. To be one of the best tennis players in the world and to say you are apolitical when it comes down to your own country's politics is absurd. This whole situation escalated and turned into something it shouldn't have. Hundreds of people are denied entry every single day with no hope of an appeal and he gets all the privileges. If he has a medical exemption from getting his vaccine that is great but it still doesn't excuse his behavior when he was positive and broke quarantine. I just want this drama to end, I am getting so tired of hearing about it everyday when there are bigger problems like Omicron. Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams.
