The main reason we have to lockdown is because hospitals get overwhelmed. We shouldn’t have to lockdown in 2022 because WE HAVE A VACCINE. Like 90% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated people. So long as our hospitals still get overwhelmed, there will still be lockdowns. If we want to completely open up without mask or vaccine mandates, then we better be ready to pay up for more hospital funds or pay up with more human lives due to triaging. We need adults to supervise children and we have been told we can’t combine classes to limit exposure. But no one is going to care about a child’s social/emotional health if they are dead. Parents were able to pick up hot meals from schools during shut downs and received extra money for food as well. Saying schools need to be open for meals isn’t a strong enough argument. This year will see a mass exodus of educators because of the lack of respect they are receiving during a pandemic. Literally what i been saying Schools shouldnt be the first easy thing to target when numbers get too high. Ive seen so many jurisdictions prioritize keeping gyms and restaurants and bars open over schools I think they need to be open as much as possible because virtual learning just isnt quite the same However within reason. Theres moments where spikes just get too high and u have no choice. They share it with at least TWO other schools. So, our nurse is not only responsible for contact tracing our school of 1,070 but thr other school of about 600. Its insane!! I'm so thankful my school admin understand the situation and have done everything they can to keep us safe and supportive. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love. When a regular classroom teacher isn't teaching the class, instruction is lost. We can't even find subs right now. So it's teacher assistants and other staff in the school covering those classes that aren't certified to teach those content areas. BS. Kids in the USA ALREADY fall behind in school anyway because of the lack of public funding, sh*tty education tools, no commitment to actual good education, short staffing, constant fear of school shootings (the list is endless). What IS extremely sh*tty about the remote school situation is that this catastrophic, systemic failure is accelerating the process of whose kids exactly are getting left behind. The poor kids, the working class kids. But that's not the fault of the "libs" as conservatives understand them. It's the fault of conservative neo-liberal policy and late stage capitalism. High school students in the district I live in won't be able to take the school bus to school the next two weeks. They are going to have to take city transportation to school.
