There wasn’t anything outstanding about Gaga’s acting

Gaga outshines everyone in the film, even the veterans. :lmao:

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

Not another negative thread predicting failure for Gaga on this site, about to be flooded by comments from new members with under 100 reaction points

I just gave my thoughts. I don’t think she’ll get a nomination, but if she does, I wouldn’t be floored. Having the opinion that the movie or acting just weren’t that great doesn’t mean I’m predicting failure. She’s already won awards for the movie! My opinions can’t take that away from her.

Clayton Davis is one of many pundits who do award predictions. Owen Gleiberman is the Variety film critic. Gleiberman loved HoG and raved about Gaga's performance (as did many other respected critics who described her performance as “flat out fabulous”, “distinct and distinguished”, “tremendous fun and ultimately touching”). I have no idea who will win the Oscar but I have no doubt that she will be nominated. SAG nominations will be announced next week and I have no doubt that she will be SAG nominated. There's a reason for the strong reviews and box office – people who love movies are loving Gaga's performance.
The AMPAS actors' branch nominates actors (all the AMPAS member vote for the winners). Pundits and film twitter are not on their radar. The only thing predictable about AMPAS members is that they will go their own way.

Are you asking the members who think she deserves an Oscar for this performance what level of importance they give themselves?

Honestly, I read the comments before in this thread and there was no one who wrote "Gaga deserves it because...". I read a lot of speculations instead.

You know, opinions should start with "I think". It comes across as arrogant and know-it-all otherwise. :haroon:

Great acting is when you totally believe that the person you are watching is really going through what you see on screen, bad acting is when you can tell they are just acting. This is hard to put into words but it's just something you recognize because you know how emotions look in real life, you know how people speak, act and react in real life and you can pick up on subtle nuances in how people act in movies and know whether it is believable or not. It's everything, the delivery of lines, the body language, the facial expressions, the tone of voice, everything. In Gaga's case, she is fine in movies where she has to play herself like in 'A Star is Born', but she is clearly not a world class actress nor a professional actress. She's pretty amateur. Her performance was fine but the Oscars are supposed to be the most prestigious acting award and she would never get a nomination for her performance if she was just some random actress starting out.

As for Kristen, all she does in that Spencer movie is try to emulate Diana's body language, facial expressions, accent, way of speaking, while being dressed like her. She did not for one moment make me think she really was Diana in that film, there was no actual emotion behind any of what she was doing, she was just focusing on having her speech and mannerisms look like Diana (impersonating her) and that's not acting, that's just an impersonation. Anyone could've done what she was doing in that movie. The only reason she is hyped to get a nomination is because 1, the movie is about Diana 2, she is Kristen Stewart. If this was some non-hyped film with a no name actress it would never be nominated for an Oscar. Neither the movie nor her performance deserve to be named the Best of the year. She was also totally miscast in this role, she looks like a 22 year old kid, not like a 30+ woman, Diana looked very womanly at that age and Kristen looks way younger. I look at that movie and think how does this young girl have those two sons? Just because she's skinny and has similar Anglo features doesn't mean she should've been cast as her, they have extremely different auras and Kristen isn't a good enough actress to pull off anyone's aura aside from her own. Diana was very tradtionally feminine and had a motherly presence while Kristen is very boyish.

I disagree completely, for me acting is not just about "believing you are seeing the real character". Kristen showed incredible emotion through her subtle body language and facial expressions in Spencer, I was completely moved by her performance and thought it was incredibly multi dimensional. I could see the turmoil in her soul juat from her facial expressions. Some of the scenes from that film still linger in my mind she was that good. As someone with a degree in film, I feel like I have some sort of knowledge on good and bad performances, and Kristen was great in Spencer

Nah Gaga already got the most important noms and just won another best actress award in Capri. An Award who got the noms of the last years right and also 4 out of 6 wins. So no way she won this and won’t even be nominated.

Also, other awards by side, experts all have Gaga on their list. I also personally am pretty sure she will make it after seeing all of those 6 movies.

I mean the race in my eyes is Jessica VS Kristen VS Gaga.

If someone doesn’t get a nom its Nicole or Rachel. Can’t imagine that she won’t get one. Also SAG nominations is next week so lets see about that

Gaga's nominations has always been in jeopardy because it's such a divisive film and there's question as to whether people are really taking it seriously, but allegedly the actor's branch responded well in public screenings. So, she has a shot at the acting nomination.

Call me crazy, but I don't think Kristen is winning.  I don't think the Academy takes her seriously yet. They have never nominated her before and I am not sure the love for her is really there. I think the winner is still very much up in the air.

Her performance is not Oscar worthy. I liked the movie and she played her role well but she's not an Oscar-worthy actress in any way. The only reason she would get a nomination is because she is Lady Gaga.

Neither is Kristen. I like Kristen as a person and some of her movies so I'm not trying to **** on her but she is a mediocre actress and all she was doing in Spencer is impersonating Diana, nothing more. Neither the movie nor her performance are anywhere near Oscar-worthy.

The Oscars (and all the other award shows) are not based on merit anymore. It's so pathetic.

According to the haters, it's because she's "just a pop star" :billie:

As heartbreaking as it would be for Gaga and all of the hard work she put into her performance, I don't think she deserves a nomination for House of Gucci. Not this year.

Jessica Chastain, The Eyes of Tammy Faye

Morfydd Clark, Saint Maud

Olivia Colman, The Lost Daughter

Penelope Cruz, Parallel Mothers

Isabelle Fuhrmann, The Novice

Alana Haim, Licorice Pizza

Emilia Jones, CODA

Nicole Kidman, Being the Ricardos

Renate Reinsve, The Worst Person in the World

Agathe Rouselle, Titane

Kristen Stewart, Spencer

Rachel Zegler, West Side Story

Any five of these ladies would be more worthy tbh.

Yes she does she full method for this role
