erfaan 2,831
So HoG finally came out in Australia and let me tell you, this movie on paper, was meant to be something that I would rave about. I adore films about crime, drama and fashion. This couldn't be any more perfect, right? When I finished the film, I couldn't help but feel so unsatisfied and leaving with more questions than I had when I started the film. I thought most of the film was impeccable (altho long), the fashion great, Gaga killed it but my real problem with the film is that the movie is about this crime that was committed - a murder that Patrizia plotted against Maurizio yet it was all covered and on screen for what? 5 minutes? It almost baffles me that they didn't include scenes of Maurizio's funeral, where Patrizia attended and gave her fake sympathy. How did they not include scenes of the Italian police finding out that she was responsible? How did they even find out? Something that I was shocked to find out myself is that Patrizia wasn't arrested until an entire two years after the murder. What did it look like when the Italian police arrested her? How did she react? How did the Gucci family react to finding out Patrizia did it. What was the court case like? It just baffles me this was all left out of a crime drama (Aside from the script - Gaga definitely deserves an Oscar nom for her role)

hELXIG 43,083
I'm in New Zealand and I finally got to see it tonight! I think you might have had some high expectations going in. The movie was more about their relationship, their story as a couple, the dynamics and power struggles between different people in high pressure situations, what happened to the company, how all of this warped Patrizia, etc... rather than just focussing on the crime itself. And personally I liked the angle they took It did feel to me though that there was so much story to tell and they just couldn't help but put everything in. It was very long. But an enjoyable story I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Brizel 593
It was more about relationships between the Guccis and the tragicness of what greed and betrayal can lead to, than a ‘crime drama’ necessarily.

Defmix100 6,393
does anyone know where that deleted scene with the car accident fall thing takes place? I assume from the setting it's right after she tries to give Maurizio the photos but I have no idea

elijahfan 26,305
Well this was one of the main criticisms that floated around as soon as the film came out, and it's also something that frustrated me. But after watching the film a couple times and having read the script, I realize that it would've been difficult to cover that much in a film that's already nearing a 3 hour run time. The whole police investigation and trial could've been a movie of their own, and I basically think they advertised the movie the wrong way and gave the audience false expectations. In the end, the epilogue was right for the story they ultimately told. But yeah, it feels a bit incomplete, and I think a mini-series would've been better fitted to tell the whole story in a satisfying way. I was also very frustrated not to see Maurizio's funeral as well, which is imo the most iconic and well-known Patrizia appearance in popular culture, but they still acknowledged the funeral look in the trial scene so all was not lost. Gabi001 2,414
What was problem for me, I didn't know if the movie was about bussiness or about murder and their relationship. And I think Ridley should have focused only on one of these things, because now the movie is quite messy. I'm not having fun tonight.
G U C C I 5,469
If they wanted to include so much of the Gucci family drama on top of Maurizio and Patrizia's relationship, then it should have been a mini-series. Honestly, after reading the book and watching tons of documentaries, I am left completely unsatisfied by the film as well. I also think the material is failed by having Ridley Scott as the director. Gaga slayed the role and blew me away throughout most of the movie. I wish they had put more faith in her performance and focused on her (which is the way it was advertised) and not included or cast such big stars for the family roles. More Salma and Gaga would have saved the third half of the film for me, but it still needs a lot of revision overall.
MelbHawker 6,583
Ridley Scott is obviously very successful & I’m nobody to criticize him, but I left the cinema feeling underwhelmed too. The entire film kept creeping slowly & slowly toward the breakdown of Maurizio & Patrizia’s marriage/the murder.. yet after he sent her back to Milan the film focused more on Maurizio & the Gucci business. The plot the viewer had been following for hours was put aside.. I’m not sure why considering the Maurizio/Patrizia plot was the only real interesting thing about the film. The brain tumor/hospital story, the funeral appearance - it would’ve been a much better route for the film to take than what eventuated, particularly because the climax presented to the audience was the murder. I would love to see her get an Oscar nom, but I would not be surprised if she misses out this year.
HuffsAhoy 7,433
Totally agree. Everything about the last part of the film was frankly mediocre. It's really a shame too, because Gaga was brilliant in the role. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.
