Would things be different if Madonna embraced Gaga in 2011?

One of the biggest controversies in the Born This Way era blew up right at the start of it - with many among the audience noticing the similarities between the lead single and Madonna's Express Yourself. These claims were further reinforced by the Queen of Pop herself alluding to Gaga making a copy of her song, and thus almost a decade long hostility between the two began.

Now let's imagine if Madonna actually embraced Gaga in 2011 - she would shut down any comments suggesting that she copied her song, her image, etc. How different would things be for Gaga?

Well, honestly i think not much if we're talking about Gaga as an artistic entity, as she is not reactive with her art and doesn't mold herself based on what the is popular opinion about her, unlike the majority of pop artists with their diss tracks and that kind of stupid art made ultimately for the sake of gossip and retaliation, the thing that would've change is that the process would've been much more smooth for gaga in the press and the people constantly harassing her and saying she was a copycat, a fake hypocrite, unoriginal etc, on the internet and even some other pop artists that joined the hate wagon judging her and talking **** about her, the madonna fans were already ruthless and madonna backing them with her negativity just made everything so much intense, she practically gave people the allowance to be mean to Gaga, she didn't care, and Born This Way is everything but reductive, when it comes to her people just see the surface as always.

We're lucky Gaga is so strong and she didn't let all the criticism affect her as a person to a level that it caused irreversible consequences, but i know for sure that it was painful to her seeing an artists that she admires and respects so much being so dismissive, and then all the **** that people were saying, this things are sometimes very demoralizing, it really break artists hearts.

Decade long hostility? Weren't they cool 4 years after it and posing at a 2015 party? Honestly Gaga was so big back then that it was sure folks would try to destroy her so she would have been attacked anyway imo.

Her haters used it to bash her but even with Madonna calming things down it would have just made them attack Gaga by focusing more on some other subject imo...

They got the biggest musical magazine in the world , Rolling stone magazine, calling express yourself a "staple singers's respect yourself cheap knock off" to begin with yet strangely ALL missed these even bigger similarities than the ones between the Gaga and Madonna songs... And went with the narrative of Gaga stealing from Madonna's innovative catalogue etc...

It wasn't about fighting plagiarism lol, it was pure Gaga bashing from a mix of folks jealous, tired to see her everywhere, Madonna stans feeling like she was placed as a replacement of their beloved idol, people who hated what she represented and used the occasion to try to shut her down and ironically hated Madonna's impact before to hate hers...

Anyone know if Madonna herself or her team thought about going to court over this ?

I'm genuinely interested.

Kind regards

well, that's true, but i think the process would've been much more smooth, for example, here in latin america during the BTWBT promo, a reporter said that gaga's agent told her beforehand to avoid bringing up the madonna subject because she was at that point a little sick of it, so you can imagine how much people were annoying talking about it and maybe being dismissive or disrespectful towards her as an artist, back then the press was really so insensitive and so gossiping hungry, still kinda.

If she wanted to go to the court she would’ve done it. They had no case so the only thing she could do is say mean things for attention, and it kinda worked. The feud was like free promo for her album.

The highest compliment really. Madge felt so threatened by Gaga she felt the need to pull a stunt like that for promo. I mean it's funny, wasn't Madonna actually sued twice in court for her being "inspired" by other songs? Yet she had the nerve to accuse Gaga. Years later Madonna finally learned her lesson and realized jealousy is not a good look especially when Gaga is not going away any time soon. Madonna has bops and is a good business woman, but she has no class

Both were in that time signed for interscope, i think interscope is not that stupid to let their two bigestes artist go to the court. I don't think feud is for free promo to her album, she have super bowl that year. And both have sold out tours, so i think GP didn't care about that feud at all, the only one that care are fans.

yet she played born this way in her tour as a way to shade her and it served to gain some publicity, so she did cared, not only fans

I don’t think things would really be different. Madonna didn’t change the trajectory of Gaga’s career at that moment. Gaga likely would’ve experienced backlash around that time no matter what because people wanted to see her knocked down a few pegs.

The thing is that Madonna has always been VERY arrogant about her success instead of being more humble, yes she’s the Queen of Pop and blah, blah, blah…  so when she feels threaten she “attacks”

Cher has been saying that for years and is in the last years that they have finally grown out of that feud… buts that’s the Tea, it has always been Madonna’s arrogance that takes over I fear…

From what is known she had to find settlements out of court ( basically make a big cheque ) to avoid plagiarism lawsuits with Lebanese singer Fairuz and Guy bourdin heirs indeed.

That's why it's crazy Gaga who never had to do a settlement and was never condemned for plagiarism get this copycat image while many think Madonna made everything first or close.

100% and its not up for debate. She knowingly fueled that conversation negatively with purpose. And im not saying that to condemn her as I am a fan of hers as well. It just is what it is. Ya'll can argue amongst yourselves against it if you want, but it is what it is.
