Productions are shut down because the lead actor or director is in the hospital? Nobody says you can't go to the movies. Country legend Charley Pride DIED on Dec. 12 from coronavirus complications, a month after appearing at the 2020 CMA Awards. The celebration was held indoors, which has drawn criticism over the possibility that he may have contracted the illness at the event. Covid has already pretty much ruined the box office for adult drama films. Anything that would’ve been moderately successful before it outright bombing now. Postponing is just ridiculous. Let attendees know that a zoom option is being considered at this stage, but don’t postpone ALREADY. Like God this is almost year 2 of covid. We’ve got to be able to think on our feet and plan. I'm speaking of what is really happening all over the world right now. Yes, people going to the hospital are most likely unvaccinated and those going to the awards show would most likely be vaccinated. However, until they know for sure the vaccine is effective against the variant, they should postpone to allow researchers time to make sure people can be safe. I'd rather places error on the side of safety than push through things just for the sake of making money. she/her/hers

There has been zero evidence that vaccines are ineffective against Omicron. Literally only the complete opposite.

We don’t know how bad Omicron will or won’t be, but that’s why these live shows/events need to have contingency plans at this point. It’s been nearly two years. Get it together and have backup plans. Speculation doesn't really use evidence. Scientists use predictive models based on a ton of different variables to forecast events like cases, hospitalizations, and deaths. The evidence shows potential for 1 million to 2.7 million cases per day in the U.S. That doesn't mean it will happen, but we can't assume that everything will be fine either. I agree that award shows should have better contingency plans.

There is an abundance of evidence that vaccines are much less effective at neutralizing omicron. Not a cause for mass panic as they can be updated to be more effective. They won't prevent you from feeling like you got hit by a bus. Many celebrities are probably cancelling their attendance which caused this decision. Award shows aren't worth the illness... even if you won't die from it.
G U C C I 5,465
It sucks the entire way around. You do everything in your power to help contain the spread of the virus by being vaccinated, boosted, limit indoor exposure to others, wear masks, etc. and still life can't get on as normal. Obviously I am not simply complaining about just this particular show being cancelled but about everything in general. Life is difficult enough without this pandemic taking away little joys like following awards season and watching red carpets. Things that may sound so trivial but really help detract from the real life stressors people have going on. I wish the Entertainment Industry could somehow rise above these types of issues and find creative ways of going on with planned events because even just a little bit of escapism would help so many who have harsh realities this winter and holiday season. Arloway 147
It's just gonna be 2020/2021 all over again. Award shows and events get postponed, then switch to hybrid format. Hosts and presenters get to an audience-less space to announce the winners, and nominees call in via video chat to receive their awards. I mean this could work, but it's just...boring af. The ratings will be even worse than last year. I would just cancel the event and announce winners on Twitter page, like the Globe.
