BRITs criticised for not including any R&B artists in Pop/R&B category

The BRIT Awards 2022 has been criticised by a number of artists, music industry insiders and fans for not including any R&B artists in its Best Pop/R&B Act category.

The nominees for next year’s BRITs were announced on Sunday (December 18). Ed Sheeran, Adele, Dua Lipa, Griff and Joy Crookes lead the nominations in the Pop/R&B category, which has confused a number of people.

BRITs voting panel member Joseph “JP” Patterson tweeted: “Glad to be on the voting panel this year — best it’s looked in a minute! But this category needs rethinking. No one here makes R&B.” source

I still don't get why they don't split this category... pretty sure there are enough artist to fill both

this is one of the categories they added this year (after they removed male and female categories). I think they  didn't want to have too many categories so they merged Pop/R&B, Alternative/Rock, Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap.
They have 13 categories this year, they had 11 categories last year and 9 categories in 2020.

The obvious thing to do would be to split this category, 5 for Pop, 5 for R&B. Either that or expand it to 10 artists if they don't want to debate whether The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé and Rihanna are making Pop or R&B.

I'm glad to say I enjoyed awards season during the first years of Gaga's career. Honestly now award ceremonies are just unbearable to me. All the drama around here is just cringey, unnecessary and immature.
