Favorite Christmas/holiday season movies

Featured Posts

My wife and I watch our 10 favorite Christmas movies during the days leading up to Christmas.  They are all feel-good movies with happy endings.  This year we decided to watch them in chronological order of release.

I am curious what the favorite Christmas/holiday season movies are for the other members here.

Ours are:

Holiday Inn                                                 1942    Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire

Miracle on 34th Street                              1947   Edmund Gwenn, Natalie Wood

White Christmas                                        1954   Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney

**** Van Dyke Christmas Show               1963   **** Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 1989   Chevy Chase

Home Alone                                               1990   Macaulay Culkin

Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York             1992   Macaulay Culkin

The Ref                                                       1994   Denis Leary

The Christmas List                                     1997   Mimi Rogers

Unaccompanied Minors                            2006  Lewis Black

Elf is hands-down my favorite Christmas film.

I also loved Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Burl Ives version) when I was growing up.

I love animated classics like Frosty the Snowman and A Charlie Brown Christmas. I have the soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi on CD and I play it every year.

Home Alone is a also a classic a for me, I remember seeing at the theater when I was like 10, and the projection stopped at some point because of a technical problem :ladyhaha:

Also Elf, How The Grinch Stole Christmas (the Jim Carrey version, I hate the original animated one), and Polar Express are pretty much my favorite.

Unpopular opinion: I don't like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I know it's a classic and everyone loves it, I try to watch it almost every year and I just don't like it for some reason, I'm not a huge fan of National Lampoon movies, the only one I kind of like is European Vacation.

My all time favorite is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation!

Me and my family watch it every year on Christmas eve - it's basically our family xmas tradition because we all love it so much, cuz it's the funniest movie ever! :ladyhaha:

I pretty much know every line :ally:

( and I also love "Home Alone" )

Christmas Vacation and Home Alone 1 & 2 are the best! I’ve watched all three religiously for the past 30 years :vegas:

It's not a Christmas season movie, but its kind of a ritual of me and my friends to watch Little Women (the 1994 version) every year on Christmas. :diane:

Love your list and your thoughts are close to mine.   And of all the movies on my list National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is my least favorite because it's too crazy or goofy or silly.  Which is inexplicable because I'm a very silly person.  Idgi.

Yeah I think that might be it, Clark Griswold is such an idiot, I just don't find that character funny at all. I don't know what it is either, all I know is I don't like that movie

What about the original black Christmas?  Do you like that?

One of the movies I listed isn't a movie but was a TV show.  I found the episode on Youtube and would like to share a delightful short skit starting at 21:50.   If you remember any of the fine entertainers, this will bring back memories.  In order of appearance starting at 21:50 are Rose Marie, Morey Amsterdam, Dikk Van Dyke, and Mary Tyler Moore:
