The Spanish Congress of Deputies recently declared that animals, including household companions and members of wild species, are sentient beings.

By declaring animals to be sentient, rather than objects or property that humans own, Spain joins approximately 32 other countries that have done the same, including France, the U.K., the Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, and Tanzania along with a few cities, including Brussels and Quebec (Canada).

The list of animals who are recognized as being sentient continues to grow, and now, in the U.K., octopuses, crabs, and lobsters are included in the sentience club and there will soon be a ban on bringing trophy corpses back to Britain.

Great news!

Let’s stop killing and eating them! :diane:
We live in a time when it is no longer necessary to consume meat. Hell, they’re working on lab grown meats if people are still that thirsty for a sentient being’s flesh.

They need to hurry up and bring in lab grown meat (as majority are not going vegan anytime soon). The way sentient animals are treated/killed unnecessarily is disgusting

The irony

Many ppls moral superiority is a very fake showy thing

When it comes to actually following thru with what they preach without any contradiction or breaking of integrity to prove their conviction on what they preach 80% to 90% of ppl fail miserably :rip:

There are ppl that are an exeption to this of course

This type of declarations made by governments are pretty much a fake showy thing. Why making them when the reality is a very different story?

People just love to make themselves feel good by doing the bare minimum and calling it a major thing, when the reality is still far from that.

They need to hurry and just improve there living standards. I think its very unlikely that humans are never going to eat meat.

If people just bought sustainable meat thats on the shelf then a large amount of the industries issues would go away.

Yes I agree that humans are highly unlikely to stop eating meat in the next centuries.

It would be too costly to improve all the living standards which is why most meat comes from factory farming. Even if they are improved the animals are still sentient and stuck in cages. Lab meat is much more ‘cruelty free’

I don't think this ruling changes much, especially in terms of meat, it just says this:

"From now on, animals will be treated as “sentient beings,” and as such will have a different legal standing than an inanimate object. They will no longer be able to be seized, abandoned, mistreated or separated from one of their owners in the case of a divorce or separation, without having their wellbeing and protection taken into account."

Honestly these changes don't have much to do with animal rights or veganism

Spoiler

Thank god tbh :billie:

Do you feel him sir?

I don't think its to costly but more so it makes the most profit is why its the standard. They're are sustainable alternatives tho that do raise the livestock well. If people started buying products only from there own country and that are from open farms the cruelty issue as well as the climate issue would level it self out a bit. If cheap factory alternatives weren't available people would be forced to buy the more expensive sustainable option. I think alot less people would buy them due to the increase in price and that would ideally reduce the demand.
