5 children in Australia died and 4 more injured at a school year end event as a strong gust of wind blew up their jumping castle high into the air.

 

The children fell from about 10 metres high (a little over 30 feet).

 

That is the height of about 5 tall humans standing on top of eachother or about 3 or 4 floors.

That's horrid, RIP, was the bouncy House securely pegged to the floor? Sounds like negligence on someone's part.

omg this is so heartbreaking. I had no idea that height could kill but it makes sense because these are little kids and also depending on how they impacted the ground they could have broken their spine and neck etc....so sorry for their family. No one should lose their children....

I was thinking the same thing.

 

Obviously this is an accident but i also wonder if there were safety steps that were not properly adhered to. No doubt there will be an investigation. Not only did 5 children die and 4 more injured but it happened on school grounds themselves

Im not surprised at all actually. If u jump from just 2 metres (6 feet) the height of an above average height male u already feel some pressure or strain in ur legs and joints...

 

This height was 5X that height and the speed u fall at accelerates quickly with each fraction of a second.

 

Depending on the position u fall absolutely it can kill you

Thats an impact calculator. At 10 metres u hit the ground with a speed of 50km/h. Thats pretty darn fast for a person to hit a hard surface.

 

At this speed some could die in a car crash if they didnt have a seat belt and if modern cars didnt have shock absorbing designs such as cars many decades ago didnt (tho nowadays almost no one dies at that speed as u dont actually get the full raw force)

Wtf..also I didn’t know you could die at that height. I thought 30 feet was about how high a house is, which wouldn’t normally be lethal? That’s scary

Its a little more than 30 feet. Just did an conversion and its closer to 33 feet. Yeah the height of a house, but a taller house with 2 floors plus and attic 3rd floor with roof over it definitely not a bangalo

 

And It depends how u fall too. I mean 4 of the children survived so it is survivable.

 

Ive also read that if ur terrified on impact it increases chances of severe injury as ur body tenses up and looses flexibility (and im sure the children were terrified). That explains why many of the highest impact survivers on record were uncontious when they fell. 

 

I also assume maybe the ground was hard? Perhaps concret?

The thing is, this isn’t the first time this has happened. I’ve seen some really terrifying videos of bouncey houses blowing away in the wind and parents running after them on Reddit.

It happened in China and the U.S. at least a few other times. I’d be afraid to let my kids play in them, to be honest.

looks like a huge fall.. horrible tragedy. RIP to the children, hope those injured can heal well and not suffer lifelong injuries.
