Didn’t people say the same thing about Katy Perry? I do think Doja is more talented but she still has a lot to prove

Most of Doja's best songs aren't produced by Dr. Luke, but Yeti Beats. Much of Luke's writing credits were forced because he feels the need to add minor changes so he can get credit. That's what Doja is alluding to in the interview.

The songs Dr. Luke fully produced are mediocre (except for Say So) but since he owns the label, he forces his own songs to be chosen as singles so he can make money and try to re-establish is career with more hits. This is so obvious with Planet Her -- Need to Know and You Right are two of the weaker tracks on the album. Ain't **** and Get Into It (Yuh) should've been singles by now.

“At first it was really easy to originally compare her to SoundCloud rappers, and it was like, ‘She raps. She must be like Nicki or she must be like Cardi,’” says her manager Josh Kaplan. “I think she’s different. I’ve always seen her as more of a Lady Gaga type.”

Yaaaas! I've been saying for the past year that Doja has been giving the best looks and dramatic performances we've seen since Gaga!

Every producer has been 'around' before they work with anyone unless it is literally the first song they are ever doing, he had been present, worked with a very random selection of different artists with songs that never took off. Dr Luke had made like 10 number 1's at that point and had all the connections to boost any track / artist.

The point I was making that you replied to, was Doja getting put in a room with Dr Luke to start her career can not be put on the same level as Gaga being put in a room with Redone to start her career.

(Which was my reply to)

I think the point @HuffsAhoy was making though is that people tie Gaga to RedOne and act like she'd be more successful with him, which she's since proven several times over that isn't the case. People are trying to say the same about Doja, but she's also proven that she doesn't need him.

Doja signed to Dr Luke in 2014, he didn't produced anything on her debut album. he started to work with her when she was already popular (her "Mooo!" went viral in 2018). No one put her in a room with Luke, Luke put himself in that room to save himself, no big artist wanted to work with him at the time.

Fair point, I'll rephrase it to, 'Sat in a room together'

Doja dosent need Dr Luke in any way but he did make songs that went viral for her 'Say So' DID put her on the map, I had no idea who she was until that. She has more than enough talent to work with anyone she wants, I wish she has the freedom Gaga does to start a completely new project, work with a whole collective of new people etc she seems restricted, but has so much potential to make hugeeeee things

She knows it, too. Haha.

“I don’t think I need to work with him again. I don’t think I need to work with him in the future. I know that.” She pauses. “I think it was definitely nice of me to work with him,” she says, emitting a dry chuckle.

Glad she addressed this head on. She's certainly alluded to the situation many times over the last couple years, but this is the first time she's directly made a statement. It's sad she was probably forced to "clarify" it in a later statement made through her PR, but Luke is very trigger happy when it comes to lawsuits, so I can understand Doja covering her ass here.

Finally. I'm just glad a statement got out with how many credits he still has on her songs and album.

Is it true that she still has a couple more albums before she's free from her contract??

For the people confused saying she hasn’t worked WITH him in a long time, all while he’s credited on her latest things — remember remote working and ghost writing/producing is a thing. It’s very probable she hasn’t worked with him in a while.
