Queerbaiting is not the same as being LGBT or an ally. Biden never promised to forgive all student debt. He said he would eliminate $10,000 of debt for students who went to public universities and who were from families making under $125k. Doing something that drastic by executive order if it doesn't pass congress would have huge repercussions and blowback. His term is not over. Something he never promised? Putting student debt payments on pause for 10 months, which he has done. If all student debt were to be cancelled, the 1.6 trillion owed would get transferred to the national debt and become the burden of taxpayers. Forgiving all student debt would also favor the wealthy. Students from high income families are likely to borrow more against attending expensive private colleges and have higher debts than students from low income families. Of all people with debt in the US, those who have attended college are likely to earn more money and those with the highest student debt of $50k or more are most likely to have graduate degrees, earning 2x the overall US median income. It would also disproportionately benefit those with student debt specifically. Student debt comprises $1.57 trillion of $14.96 trillion total US personal debt, or roughly 10%. Mortgage debt comprises about 70% of all personal debt in the US — are those people less deserving and in less need of help? For those of you constantly saying the democratic party is too elitist, you are right in this case. You want them to forgive only 10% of all US personal debt because those people attended college. That sounds very, what's the word, progressive! And speaking of progressive, Joe Biden did not run as a progressive candidate and he did not win as a progressive candidate. They often have some options for reducing monthly payments. Before covid, I had an Income Restricted Repayment Plan that brought my payments down to about $100. I'm sure it varies widely between companies (I use Navient) but it was still a nice help. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love. My hours have drastically been cut at work, I couldn't even afford a MRI that I need to check if there are any growth in my head since I've had a debilitating migraine for 6 weeks now. My parents aren't working so I have to help out as much as possible. The school I went to has I think only 1 left in my state, they got shut down and sued for scamming people out of thousands of dollars. My loan went from 7k to 14k after a deferment because the school wasn't helping anyone get jobs or find places hiring. They didn't even help us with externships. I've managed to pay off 10k in 5 years when I was working a lot. This just adds to more stress everyone is having during the pandemic and just low work hours.
