That’s because Democrats only vote every 4 years, Republicans do it annually

There's the problem then :reductive: All parties should be voting in every election.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

Lol at all the F*ck Democrats comments as if Republicans are going to forgive any loans. A lot of social programs that people depend on to live are going to be cut as well.

I also have a rain forest in South Carolina to sell you if you think certain progressive democrats who make a lot of promises would actually be able to keep those promises as well. I have no idea why people talk about them as if they are some kind of saviors.

Yep. The DNC has been abysmal at winning state legislatures / supreme courts / etc.

Some states have made up for it (like the local Virginia Dems in 2017) but the national party needs more investment in it

I appreciate a lot of us are angrily upset about this- I just don't agree with people saying eliminating loans are a giveout or something....  I always felt like I did everything "correct" in my life:
finished HS, Graduated 4-year college with degree, got a full time job with said degree.

I don't feel like my wages are keeping up with the rise of everything else, and what's supposed to be a simple "you took a loan now you pay it"  in ACTUALITY my personal (fed) loans are only around 16k off.  its the PARENT PLUS loan that my parents took out that are 32k. I am paying those as well, legally don't have to, but I know they'd go bankrupt since theyre already in debt. together its around $750/mo

I will need to refinance since I've since moved and have cats and now medical bills... I can make it work but so many other people can't and it's crippling an entire generation

the ignorance of people blaming Biden.

Change on student debt comes from CONGRESS.  AOC, the squad, elizabeth warren and bernie sanders are IN congress and yet none of you blame them for some reason.

If you think any one of them being president would give them the magic powers to do better - then you quite simply do not know how government works.

You want student loan relief - put it on Biden's desk and he will sign it.

Thank you! Unfortunately most Americans don’t know this basic stuff

I'm very progressive and I don't regret my vote for Biden, only because 4 more years of Trump was unconscionable and we only had 2 options when it came down to it. Even with nothing changing, I still think it's better than where we'd be under Trump, because I think we'd continue changing for the worse in that case. At least right now we're kind of remaining neutral...

With that said, it doesn't make it any less disappointing to see all these campaign promises broken and no meaningful action from him (or congress). It's what I expected, but still disheartening. I understand there are going to be a lot of people who take this administration as a final straw to not vote for Dems and that's scary knowing how well the Republicans mobilize for voting.

I really hope the party finally embraces a progressive candidate, but I know it won't happen until the old guard is out. It's very sad.

I think you misunderstand (and it's really my fault). It was also a sentiment that carried through the primary, that the moderate candidates were realistic and they would get some things done because they weren't as extreme. Now we see (again) until gatekeepers try to rewrite history that no moderates do not come up with more results.

And no, the democratic party will never embrace a progressive candidate because it is not a progressive party. It is just the reality and progressives who are always willing to give the party their vote will always get what they paid for and it will always be in the vein of the Bidens of the world.

Republicans have already overtaken my local school board. It's happening in every corner of America.

Same here. When I lived in Chicago, majority of my immediate community always leaned left. Since moving back to the burbs, it's alarming at how conservative my area continues to delve.

What I find infuriating about this is that the federal government has NO problem lowering interest rates for banks, forgiving billions in business loans, and increasing spending for numerous other programs. Yet students got absolutely NO relief whatsoever -- a deferment is not relief. It is simply a delay of an existing problem of debt.

Meanwhile, true inflation is at least 10% (they're not reporting otherwise for obvious reasons) and oil prices are surging.

And you hear the media talking about NONE of these problems.

I won’t be voting for the Democratic Party again unless it’s an ACTUAL progressive whose word can be trusted. All that talk about student loans and healthcare and criminal justice during the primaries was all bullshit.

They won’t be even do a damn thing about climate change. In fact, the bipartisan bill that recently passed may make emissions WORSE.

They won’t do anything about the filibuster. They won’t do anything about gerrymandering. They won’t do anything about the Supreme Court. They won’t do anything about Saudi Arabia’s humans rights violations in Yemen. They won’t do anything about our dependence on oil. They won’t do anything about the cost of healthcare. The list goes on and on.

Oh but they all rush to pass a bigger defense budget than was asked for. Who are we at war with?

Ourselves/each other 😭

He promised debt cancellation, so he should be working on it with Congress or whomever.

This presidency gets worse week after week. :toofunny:

Gonna refrain from directly responding to any specific posts to avoid unnecessary messiness, but

1) remember which prominent party/party members are even entertaining the thought of helping this crisis and which party/party members are actively working against the idea

2) remember working against the party that is thinking of helping does in fact mean that you're working with the one that is NOT (in this country in this circumstance in this 2-party majority system)

3) remember there is more you can do than just vote. If it is that serious. If it is negatively affecting your life. If it is swaying your feelings towards the party you still think is the less awful option enough to trash them and lose faith.... DO SOMETHING. Literally *actually* do something about it. Anything. Sign petitions. Write a half page letter to your representatives. Make signs and go annoy them outside their offices (safely and peacefully). Encourage others to do the same.

At the end of the day, if all you are doing is complaining online about the party you ultimately end up voting for... You're just leaving negative "reviews" for others who are on the fence to find and get pushed closer to the other side of the political spectrum that definitely isn't going to help the causes you want the government to help.

Thanks for letting me borrow the soapbox; y'all can have it back now tho cuz I'm done 😇

For now :stalkga:

I see what you're saying. Personally, I never expected much would meaningfully change with an establishment candidate like Biden in office (aside from simply staving off Trump). But you're right, empty campaign promises were made over and over to voters just as they often have been in the past. The messaging that "reaching across the aisle" would lead to progress was very naive given how the Republican party operates.

I see it as a lose-lose situation. If we refuse to vote for the candidate the Dems put forward after primaries, we split the blue vote and then we all lose and get stuck with the Trumps of the world. But also, like you're saying, voting for the establishment doesn't provide results for those of us who actually want to see things get better in our country. I do still think the lesser of two evils is banding together and voting blue no matter what they outcome of the primaries. But it's very sad that politics has to come down to avoiding the worst option vs. anything ever getting better.

The way he could literally just keep delaying indefinitely when repayments start as has been happening under executive order for the past almost 3 years now, and some of you have the audacity to say Biden doesn't have the authority to do this.
