Twitch has notoriously been very touchy on what is allowed to be said on their platform anyway. Using the term "blind playthrough" was banned from the site when all it really means is to play a game with no previous experience, going into the game blind so to speak.

Hasan knows full well what he's signed up to streaming on Twitch, especially with the controversial nature of his streams.

Right, the point is whether you or I think if the r word (or cracker) should or shouldnt be allowed on Twitch is largely irrelevant. It's Twitch who decides what they want on their platform. Asmon states in this clip if Twitch starts banning for that word or tells him not to use it otherwise he will get banned then he will stop using the r word. Until then he's using that word of his own volition.

This also applies to Hasan's situation right now. He can easily go to a different streaming service that will allow that language if he wishes. Twitch's house, Twitch's rules.

Just looking aside from the fact that cracker absolutely is not a slur and Twitch absolutely has no solid base on banning people for saying that word:

IMO Twitch is engaging in straight up unethical behavior, akin to what Facebook is criticized for nowadays: It allows agitated right-wing propaganda and extremism to fester and spread, while at the same time shutting down members or allies of marginalized communities who critique white supremacy. Twitch is not explicitly for right-wingers only, their TOS do not state that opinions and streamers that are left of the center in political ideology are not welcome or forbidden.

The way they run the platform, especially moderation, bans, what's allowed and what is not allowed however creates an environment, that clearly amplifies and encourages right-wingers to be hateful, mass-report, hate-raid and harrass streamers and their fans that come from marginalized communities, while those exact communities, who actually are under siege, are not allowed to talk about being under siege because... that's anti-white racism or sum BS?

If they wanna keep these recent bans (because an additional two other, queer leftists streamers got banned today for questioning Twitch's reasoning) in line with their company policies and the image they wanna present to the public, they better start being honest about their motivations for their bans and why they disproportionally affect left-leaning people critiquing the status quo, and not... people who literally bring Neo-Nazis on their streams to play League of Legends together and advocate for "the white man's right to say the n-word".

Why should we care?

If you actually cared, you wouldn't be using Twitch in the first, after we know all we know about Amazon, Bezos and their practices.

But no, y'all subscribe and give your hard earned money to these zombies then complain when they suspend a millionaire for a week or whatever.

So maybe if you want to be on the right side of history, stop caring about twitch and stop caring about streamers who help them make money.

There's two types of problematic white people. First the ones that want to (and claim to) be offended by everything - they demand 'justice' for being offended and will likely go to extreme lengths to get it regardless of morals and common decency. In this instance, it is over the apparent 'racial slur' (I think the f*ck not) 'cracker'. Then we have the ones that care (or not) to offend. They have 'controversial opinions' regarding 'topics about race', they 'support BLM' and then proceed with the 'but' that inserts a white narrative (and a tear or two) where it does not belong. Some may also equate their perceived struggles to racism against POC. This forum is crawling with examples in case you need any (and maybe this thread but lemme mind my business chile).

Why some white people choose to equate their ridiculous woe-is-me attitude to actions and words deeply rooted (we're talking hundreds of years) in extreme racism is beyond me. Repulsive and disgusting, but in general, the gaming world as a whole is so nasty. It's pretty much oozing misogyny, sexism, racism, bigotry and flat out hate. A platform like Twitch? Yuck! I'm kinda tempted to make a thread about the issues in the gaming community but I'd have to end up writing a dissertation.

Surprise, surprise: There's no ethical consumption under capitalism because no matter what you do, you benefit billionaires because they own and control the entire digital infrastructure. I guess that means nobody is ever allowed to critique anything, unless you are a self-governed potato farmer, that also somehow manages to host their own broadband internet network along with servers for a video-sharing & streaming platform to share videos about their opinions on the downfalls of capitalism. I'm not entirely sure that's true. When Twitch's history comes to mind I generally think of performative actions they made to try and be inclusive that would have no real effect on anything. Also the removal of people like Gootecks from the platform and his likeness in the PogChamp emote for his comments about the insurrection.

This is the first time I can think that someone big who has political streams and is very left on the political spectrum who has been banned. Generally politics don't play a part in someone getting banned, they normally messed up. I am not familiar with the other queer leftists you mentioned getting banned but I'd assume they also said cracker or Twitch just doesn't want inflammatory comments about it. As I said, Twitch's house, Twitch's rules, I don't think anyone would like being disrespected in their own house. Doesn't make it right but thats just how it goes, maybe move to youtube instead.

That being said I'm not condoning the hate raids, harassment of any kind and the advocation of the "white mans right to say the n word", that does need to be addressed by Twitch. It doesn't surprise me that is coming from a League of Legends stream though, easily one of the most toxic communities in gaming if not the most toxic.
