A Star Is Born was nominated eight (8) times in 2018, and won Best Film. House of Gucci has three (3) noms this year. Gaga was nominated for Best Actress both years.

I think the point is the Oscar nomination is likely coming, not the win. TBH when Gucci debuted with mixed reviews, even though critics were raving over her performance for the most part, I thought her chances of getting nominated were low. But she has the NYFCC stamp of approval (aka the serious, snobby stamp) which helps her momentum...she has the box office...she has other critics groups...and CCA & GG will likely nominated for her star power alone (which will help her narrative).

Critics awards have 0 impact on Oscars, as long as she keeps getting nominated for these awards, her nomination at Oscars is guaranteed(which alone should already be a huge achievement, considering how competitive the BA category is for this year.)

How is the NYC the biggest one? The biggest out of the critics awards would be the Critics Choice, which encompasses all of the critics and not just one state.
