Teletubby 148,971
After much speculation and a full day’s delay from its original plan of going out Tuesday, the presale for Verified Fans to Adele’s Weekends With Adele residency in Las Vegas went off Wednesday. As it turns out, that was likely too low of an estimation, given that Ticketmaster was apparently using dynamic pricing to capture the maximum revenue for the performances, cashing in on the enormous pressure they ensured would be in place on those who got codes for the high demand event. After some pre-sale indications of a “face value” starting at $85 plus fees for the back of the room and $685 for the prime seats near the stage, prices appeared to be dynamically priced far, far above those numbers, dashing the hopes of at least some of the fans who got through the code system and the long queue only to be priced out on the primary market. HuffsAhoy 7,433
Ticketmaster is truly EVIL!! I wish something could be done about their outrageous price gouging for every event they host tickets for. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love. ItWasntLaauv 6,392
That’s kinda f*cked up and was completely intentional. Using dynamic pricing for ADELE... c’mon now, of course prices will go through the roof.

mr.peter 3,555
okay now I don't feel bad about not getting a code. I wouldn't be able to justify that cost.
elijahfan 26,107
That's why I absolutely hate getting tickets to shows in the USA... What's even the concept of "dynamic pricing"? It's literally half-disguised theft, I don't even understand how this can be legal. This would never fly here in France.

Getting Spotify to change its shuffle function is one thing, but getting Ticketmaster to turn their back on a shitload of money is another.

I mean let's be honest, a significant amount of that will go into her pockets too. I mean she could always use an alternative ticket sales platform that is not ticketmaster. And she definitely has the clout to be able to get her way, those prices are proof of that.

Did a bit of research and artists actually have a choice to opt-out of dynamic pricing. So when they don't, it's very clear it's because it's all about the $$$$$. If the artist is cashing in on those inflated price, then it furthers my incomprehension of "dynamic pricing".

My only experiences are seeing Gaga in NY and in Vegas, and both times I bought tickets that cost at least twice their initial price (and I purchased those the very day they went on sale). How so? It's fairly simple. They figure that if a lot of fans want to go see them, they can drive up the prices to a point where not everyone will be willing to buy a ticket, but enough would that they will be able to maximize profits. So basically between selling a full house at market price and selling dynamic tickets, if the prices are about 10x higher (as is pretty much the case here with Adele), she only needs to sell 11% of all tickets to make more money than a full house at retail price. So obviously, even if she only sells 20% of tickets, she still makes a huge profit. It's just human greed. 1 minute ago, elijahfan said: I didn't think this was an option and low-key assumed this always happened like that in the US. Oh it happens all the time because most artists want that $$$$. They don't care about the fans at all. I'm sorry you went through that Here in the UK the artist pre-sale is always at a normal price, the dynamic pricing only starts on the day of the general onsale (and not all tickets are at that price), so it's still easier to see someone live without selling a kidney.
