Speak Easy 324
I hate to say that I knew this would happen….but “California sober” is technically called “harm reduction” in the sober community and it usually only works with people who were in the “risk zone” of addiction (most rehabs test you to see how many characteristics you have of an addict, and there is the lowest zone which is the risk zone) and only addicted to one particular substance. Once you are mixing benzos, cocaine, marijuana, alcohol, and heroin together it is really hard yo “reduce” or be “California sober” because it is too tricky of a balancing act of uppers and downers. Your hormones get very out of whack and the only way to truly balance them is to just wean safely off the benzos/alcohol (those two you can actually die from if you try and cold turkey them…I went into the hospital the first time for alcohol induced panic attack and was shocked when the doctor said “when you get home have a beer or two a day for 3-5 days to detox) and then just completely stop using. You can’t get better if you keep tricking your brain into thinking you are gonna reintroduce it to the high. The addicted brain literally is wired completely different than a typical drinker. Btw I wish we would also get rid of the term “functioning alcoholic”. There is no such thing as a full functioning alcoholic. Alcohol literally impairs you. Even if you aren’t addicted to it. So just because you work or keep a job and then slam drinks every night…you are not fully functioning/yourself/at best capacity.
SharGaga 2,906
This after they made a whole documentary promoting california sober which is a harmful thing for addicts to believe in imo. Themi is toxic and a danger to society. I wonder what she'll do next to grab attention. I don't get why they have to expose every part of their journey in this way only for them to change their mind. Gaga has had substance abuse issues but I'm glad she's never shoved her beliefs about substance abuse down our throats. But on a positive note I'm glad they corrected themselves. So just because you work or keep a job and then slam drinks every night…you are not fully functioning/yourself/at best capacity. In fact, while on the topic, if ANYONE needs to hear this: Even if you are not an addict or an alcoholic or you are and you are struggling, the BEST thing you can do is try 30 days. Hundreds of studies have proven that even if the casual drinker gave themselves a 1 month break just once a year, it not only allowed their brain, skin, and organs time to cleanse itself of toxins building up, but it also helped people control their alcohol use better in the future. If you aren’t ready to give up alcohol you don’t have to and you don’t have to give it up perfectly. That is the point of harm reduction. It’s a stepping stone. You shouldn’t want to be California sober forever but sometimes the idea of abandoning something that is integral to your social life, your routine, or simply just part of your diet…it can be daunting. That is what Demi did. And clearly Demi took it seriously enough to use it when they needed it and then move on. I commend them for that. You don’t need alcohol or cigarettes or cocaine or vapes or mj folks. You don’t even need coffee. Your body is literally built to make all those feel good hormones by itself. Throwing other **** on top of it is just wrecking your bodies ability to do it by itself.

Gaga has had substance abuse issues but I'm glad she's never shoved her beliefs about substance abuse down our throats. But on a positive note I'm glad they corrected themselves. If you're talking about the 4 part documentary they had on YouTube, California Sober was brought up a few times but it definitely was not what the entire doc was about. It recalled their drug overdose, where they literally died, not to mention they were sexually assaulted before the overdose, and their sexuality, among other topics. Demi is incredibly brave to share their story and they have helped many people around the world who are battling addiction and gender identity/sexuality. Everyone is on a journey and it's very ignorant to be anything but supportive of someone who (again) literally died from a drug overdose, and is now alive on this Earth and sharing their story. Bling 31,452
So happy for them! I still indulge in green 🌱 but have been sober from alcohol for almost 9 months. Glad to see artists coming forward like this @StarstruckIllusion Thanks for sharing this and putting positivity out there. So many are negative about Demi for reactions and popularity sake. Sobriety is not the same for everyone. I agree, California sober may not be the best for Demi but I have patients at the VA who did heroin and I’m ok with them smoking marijuana if that’s what it takes. Secondly, if you really are an alcoholic, stopping cold turkey is DEADLY and should not be done. This is probably why the doctor said to drink a beer or two. Same with benzos. Withdrawing from benzo addiction will kill you unless you are being supervised by a physician.
