I mean in most countries that it has been detected outside South Africa the majority of the population is vaccinated

 

Also its very difficult if not nearly impossible for unvaccinated to travel anyway between borders and time for it to spread in the new Nationshas been limited

 

So by default even if the vaccinated get it more mild or are more likely to be asymptomatic, its not surprising the majority seen with it so far are vaccinated

Im not so worried from a health perspective as i am about the economy. Im sure new vaccine tweeks can be made quickly if the worst case scenario that the vaccines dont help against omicron turn out to be true

 

But even temporary shutdowns yet again if Nations decide to go that route

 

Govenments are so financially tapped out, interest rates cant go any lower, money printing has already gone full force around the world and supply chain disruptions have been a real heache

 

The global economy is literally hanging by a thread. Theres no ammunition left to keep it artificially going. Hope this doesntturn out to be yet another set back we just cant afford

Preliminary signs (nothing conclusive yet, obviously) show Omicron is much more contagious but possibly less deadly than Delta.

Im just saying the economy cant handle another 6 months+ of tightening restrictions again. I hope Countries dont try to go that route yet again if the feared worst case scenarios on Omicron turn out to be the case

I’m surprised at how US-centric your post is, especially since you’re a Canadian. Didn’t Canada already raise interest rates to fight inflation? The US unfortunately is preferring to allow inflation to run hot to keep the economy going, but all its doing is making everyone who hasn’t received a major raise poorer. You’re right about most of what you said, but is the economy really hanging by a thread?

Its not US-Centric lol. Its the same thing around the world. Look at Europe, their rates are near 0 also and their financial ammunition is exhausted. Literally same position

 

And no, Canada has not risen rates. We tightned monetary policy in the sense that we were the first major Central Bank to end money printing via Quantitative Easing

 

So stimulus has been reduced by eneding of QE. But interest rates havent been risen yet they are still at 0.25%

 

They were talking about several rate hikes in 2022 to fight inflation but it hasnt been started yet

 

Also Canada shares financial exhahstion state. Maybe at the Federal Level we still have room but adding Provincial debt and private debt we got one of the most leveraged economies in the world actually so like Europe and US we too are in a financial disaster.

 

Not sure how wed actually be able to handle those 7 rate hikes market had priced in. Realistically its yet another rate hike cycle that is predicted but will not actually happen
