Egypt restores Ancient road connecting temples of Luxor and Karnak

A restored road connecting two ancient Egyptian temple complexes in Karnak and Luxor has been unveiled in a lavish ceremony aimed at raising the profile of one of Egypt’s top tourist spots.

The procession on Thursday to reopen the 1.7-mile (2.7km) road included a reenactment of the ancient Opet festival, in which statues of Theban deities were paraded annually during the New Kingdom era in celebration of fertility and the flooding of the Nile.

The Egyptian president, Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, marched along the road at the start of the ceremony. Pharaonic chariots and more than 400 young performers dressed in pharaonic costumes paraded along the avenue.

The 3,400-year-old road linking the ancient centres of Karnak and Luxor, also known as Road of the Rams or Avenue of the Sphinxes, is lined with hundreds of ram- and human-headed sphinxes, though over the years many have been eroded or destroyed.

The downfall of Egypt has always been so sad to me. It was one of the most (if not *the* most) greatest empires in the entire world. They had it ALL and were ahead of their time. They gave humanity A LOT. They definitely pushed all of us forward. I need to see them back to the top. Such a beautiful country and culture. ❤️🤍🖤

Agreed. To be completely honest, before the Egyptians, there were the Mioans (the first developed civilisation wiped out by natural disaster), powerful city-states in Levant and Anatolia, the Persian Empire, Rome. All throught out history big civilisations declined and vanished and sometimes different ones picked up where they left.  For instance, the most developed region of the Roman Empire wasn't its western half (modern-day France, Spain or Benelux) like today, but its eastern half (Greece, Anatolia, Egypt). This goes to show how civilisation was a creation of the East and only moved westwards with the passing of time.
