One weekend in, the hotly anticipated 30 by Columbia’s Adele is on track to bow (at #1, naturally) in the area of 800-850k—becoming the year’s biggest debut and by far the biggest first week since bundling was eliminated from the charts

Well, if Adele couldnt reach the million copies sold in the first week, then i think any artist cant. Although, Taylor might have a chance.

Who knows what Taylor will achieve with the 1989 rerecord.

Nah, I love Taylor and her numbers are still impressive, but I don't think she can do a million again. Streaming changed the game.

Not a relevant comparison because Billboard counted bundles back then, not to mention that it was 6 years ago.

Regardless its her last record and if theres any relevant comparison that would be it. Still she did great. Congrats to her!

Or if yall want a relevant comparison Red TV did 600K and was released last week and is also a 9 yeard old album. Adele might be bigger WW but by her next album if she doesnt have a huge hit I see Taylor surpassing her in the long run.

wasn’t that the worldwide number?

update: yikes nvm. altho some were saying 30 would do 1.3-1.7m so idk why this prediction is so low

still amazing tho

A huge success compared to the music industry standards, some kind of flop compared to her own standards.

Not really. If there's half a decade between the albums and a crucial chart rule change then it's not a relevant comparison.

Especially the rule change —

Ariana's thank u, next did 360K in 2019 and positions did 174K in 2020, clearly because her merch didn't count, not because her popularity dropped by a half in a year.

The comparison is relevant but with caveats. By your own logic, you are saying that there can be no comparison made. What would be relevant is seeing the multiplier between the two of her records and comparing the multiplier of contemporaries who released albums relatively close to 30 and 25. :huntyga:
