Channel 7 reporter suspended over interview with Adele

It has been revealed Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran was suspended for two weeks by Channel 7 after conducting a poorly researched interview with Adele.

Weekend Sunrise presenter Matt Doran was suspended by his employer for 2 weeks after recording a disastrous interview with Adele ahead of the release of her new album 30.

Matt Doran filmed a 20-minute interview with Adele earlier this month in London. However, things turned sour after Adele observed the former crime reporter had failed to ask a single question about her new album.

He was then forced to admit he hadn’t bothered to listen to the album despite the record company supplying him with a special advanced preview copy.

Channel 7 had planned to broadcast the Australian exclusive interview as a primetime Sunday night special last weekend, but was forced to change plans after Adele’s management, Sony Music used its veto powers to block the interview from ever being broadcast.

Channel 7 has high hopes for tonight’s Adele special. It has been reported Seven invested close to $1 million to secure broadcast rights for the Adele TV package which also includes the highly anticipated Adele One Night Only special.

Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran ‘sorry’ for Adele drama
Matt Doran told The Australian he is “mortified and unequivocally apologetic”.

He said he had been sent an e-copy of the new album but “somehow missed” it while flying to London. He called it “the most important email I have ever missed”.

“When I sat down to interview Adele, I was totally unaware that I’d been emailed a preview of her unreleased album,” he said.
“I have since discovered it was sent to me as an ‘e card’ link, which I somehow missed upon landing in London. It was an oversight but NOT a deliberate snub. This is the most important email I have ever missed.”

He said he had told Adele he had heard her single, Easy On Me, “but not the other tracks”.

While Seven insiders reportedly said the singer had stormed out on the interview after the comment, Doran refuted the claims and said it was the “polar opposite”.

“What was meant to be 20 minutes was extended to 29 minutes. The majority of the chat was about the album,” he said.

Although the interview was recorded, Adele’s label Sony has reportedly denied Channel 7 rights to air any portion of it.

She lost a lot of weight and even if she hadn't, I still wouldn't use the word huge to describe her.

I remember waiting an hour to hear Gaga on one of Sydney's radio stations in the album promo for Chromatica and they barely asked anything actually worthwhile. such a waste of time lmao

Good point, me too.

The other thing is maybe there was a reason.  Maybe the waves were really good and he had to get his surf on, or he had a sick koala at home, or one of his kangaroos got out and he had to find it.
