Music critics really, really enjoyed Chromatica (and so did I). It has a 79 on Metacritic - her highest rating.

Haha. I still don't think it's looked at *that* fondly by music critics, but it's become very acclaimed in her fan base. Perhaps that's what she meant. Fans love and defend AP all the time nowadays.

Didn’t you read the gazillion articles publications have been churning out to defend ARTPOP since last year?

Erm... Is it?

I immediately thought the same thing when I read that, but I will say it is a "cult classic" in her discography. Between the fans starting the ACT 2 petition to NUMEROUS critics writing think-pieces questioning "was it really a flop?" years later.

I think "critically acclaimed" might not be the best phrasing, but people LOVE to talk about it now in a positive light (or in a "it wasn't that bad" light), whereas in 2013, it attracted unfair statements about the longevity of her career.

Good interview, I really like Kyle Buchanan!

I did lol at the "best experience with a director", poor Bradley :bradley: (I know it's a 'love the one you're with' situation, it's just a bit funny)

I'm glad she feels that way about ARTPOP, the longer the timeline the rosier we all feel about that era which I very much enjoy :diane:

“I’ve never had a better experience with a director,” she said.

:bradley:

Taking into consideration that she hasn't worked with many film directors,

“I was in a really complicated place in my life when this script came to me,” Gaga said of her first starring role since “A Star Is Born” (2018).

She was struggling with depression as she recorded her 2020 album, “Chromatica,” and the woman born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta even wrestled with whether she really wanted to be Lady Gaga anymore.”

the last part :bradley:
