Travel firm to stop selling holidays that include captive dolphin shows

The travel company Expedia has stopped selling holidays that include performances by captive dolphins and whales.

There have been growing calls in recent years, including from the prime minister’s wife, Carrie Johnson, to ban attractions and experiences that involve captive sea creatures.

Announcing the move on Twitter, the company said: “We recently adjusted our animal welfare policy. As a result, attractions and activities that involve performances by or interactions with dolphins and other cetaceans will no longer be available on our sites.”

Can I ask you why? I am a zookeeper and my animals receive the best care imaginable…better than most humans. Zoos are insanely important to conservation projects and the protection/propagation of endangered species. Me and @sarahbcould answer any questions or give explanation. I know they feel similarly

I also want to say that many people have formed their opinion solely on a very biased and unreliable “documentary” called Blackfish. I get it. It’s very sad and they did a very good job at convincing their argument. There is a lot more to the story than what was portrayed. Zoos and Aquariums have received so much backlash since that came out.

Anyway I wonder if they're gonna stop selling tickets to Disney World? Or at least EPCOT? I mean they have interactive programs with captive dolphins so if they don't wanna be hypocrites...

I'm now in the mood to visit the dolphins at the Sea World near me  

(Same name but it's not affiliated with the US parks which makes the people on their social media calling for them to free their non-existent whales sad and hilarious )

But I do wanna check out the San Diego park next year

If it's anything like the one here in Florida it'll be amazing

I agree that certain enormous animals shouldn't really be in captivity but that fact doesn't negate all the good they do imo. Hell, our local beaches have a protocol when whales, dolphins, and manatees get beached. Beachgoers are meant to keep damp towels on the animal, constantly pour sea water on them, and the local authorities will contact Sea World to come provide veterinary care and/or transportation if needed. What people don't realize when they push large animals back into the ocean is that they're likely injured and need care

We had an annual pass to Sea World every year when I was growing up, I've been there at least a hundred times. I'm barely exaggerating, if at all

I've been to the Orlando one and I really enjoyed it. I didn't do any animal experiences though so I wanna do that in San Diego. Plus I wanna go to the San Diego Zoo. PETA must love me

Our Sea World does heaps of animal rescue too, they're always going out freeing whales stuck in shark nets. Or just rehabbing sea life in general. There's also a few dolphins they have that were rescued but couldn't be released. They'd be euthanised if they couldn't stay there.
