Morphine Prince 109,654
Republican Glenn Youngkin defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe in Virginia's high-profile election Tuesday for governor, NBC News projected, flipping control of a state that President Joe Biden won handily just a year ago. Potentially even more concerning for Democrats, the race in New Jersey remained too close to call, even though Gov. Phil Murphy had been expected to cruise to re-election. “We’re sorry tonight couldn’t yet be the celebration we wanted it to be," he told supporters. The results there and in other states holding off-year elections sent a warning shot to Democrats, suggesting that trouble may be brewing ahead of next year's midterm elections. "This is the spirit of Virginia coming together like never before," Youngkin told supporters well after midnight, joking breakfast would soon be served. "For too long, we've been expected to shelve our dreams, to shelve our hope, to settle for low expectations. We will not be a commonwealth of low expectations. We'll be a commonwealth of high expectations." McAuliffe congratulated Youngkin in a statement Wednesday morning conceding defeat. Chlorine 47,976
I heard he won because he distanced himself from Trump at least? This is not surprising at all. Dems are not doing ****.
LunaUniverse 4,568
I have never felt this embarrassed by my own state.. Both at the voter turnout and at the McAuliffe's team for promoting the weakest gubernatorial campaign I have ever seen. Thank god the Senate holds a slim majority (For now) There goes our decade of progress out the window 1# Samoyed Stan
Guest
I'm not surprised. I saw SO many signs for Yungkin where I live and where I live is actually pretty liberal compared to the rest of the state.
HorusRa2 5,005
Looking forward to the legislative gridlock intensifying when dems lose everything in the mid-terms.

Gagaloo911 12,959
Tbh it's what they deserve for how embarrassing and what an absolute FAILURE they've been when controlling Congress and the executive.
HuffsAhoy 7,433
As if this is shocking. The Do Nothing-crats have sat around infighting for months while the GOP has fired up their voter base. Get ready for a complete Republican take-over in 2022 & 2024 from the local level up. Sorry to say but this is what they deserve for continually throwing literally the most useless and lazy candidates at the American people in every election and running around pointing fingers at others when they control it all. know so many people, myself included, who are beyond done with this centrist clown show. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.
Prostitute Barbie 4,083
The dems deserve to lose all their power at this point because they do nothing but sit around fighting each other. Hope they’re proud

gabeoz 7,915
It’s not surprising at all, McAuliffe was a bad candidate who ran a horrible campaign from the start. (He barely won his first governor election to begin with) The dem party deserves this, maybe it’ll show certain Dems that doing absolutely f*cking nothing is going to completely kill their chances at re election. If they had actually bothered to pass legislation like the Infrastructure bill and BBB Act months ago like they should have, they would have had something to actually campaign on. Virginia has been a solid blue state for the past decade, it’s entirely the fault of dem leadership.
Ricksies 527
The Dems are in trouble. They need to actually prove themselves capable of delivering and improving lives of their people otherwise you'll end up with Trump 2024. At the moment you're heading down the path of a conservative majority like the UK (here the labour/liberals are unfortunately mostly clowns and don't stand a chance of getting back control.) Emvee 8,826
But hey at least their corporate donors are happy No really that is unironically at the top of their priority list. The fact that Manchin and Sinema were able to hijack the reconciliation bill proves that. Keep this in mind the next time someone tries to argue a moderate will “get things done.” They don’t rally the base and they DONT get **** done.
