Title.

It’s been a minute since I’ve listened to Britney’s magnum opus album Blackout, but Gagadaily’s Halloween features Freakshow and one thing led to another…and I ended up listening to the entire album tonight. Holy sh*t does it still hold up as being an incredible album nearly 15 years later. She did THAT in the middle of the undeniably most challenging period of her life.

I think most pop music fans regard it as pure pop perfection, but where does it stand in your eyes? I believe she was really ahead of the times with the sounds on the record and it was paid dust at the time because of the media, but had it been released under different circumstances it could have been as huge of a commercial smash as it is considered a smash especially in the gay community. :firega:

Go stream Blackout. :toofunny:

Go stream Love For Sale.

Go stream GagaDaily’s Halloween Playlist.

HUZZAH! :tony:

*Edit: I only say it wasn’t as big of a commercial success as it could have been because singles Gimme More, Piece of Me, and Break the Ice peaked at 3, 18, and 43 on the hot 100, respectively. Album went #2 with 290k first week sales which are obviously outstanding numbers.

Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.

Blackout has not only topped a million in sales but it is now the pop star's only album to be added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's music library and archives. The Hall developed the archive to be the "most comprehensive repository of materials relating to the history of rock and roll … in order to broaden awareness and understanding of rock and roll, its roots, and its impact on our society."

In a 2010 blog post talking about Spears' demo of Lady Gaga's "Telephone" (the song was originally written for Spears and was recorded by Gaga only after she decided against using it), Rolling Stonepaid the album a very big compliment, writing, "People love to make fun of Britney, and why not, but if 'Telephone' proves anything, it's that Blackoutmay be the most influential pop album of the past five years."

Would the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame lie?

For me, not really.

It has some major bops (Gimme More, Piece Of Me, Break The Ice), but album as a whole isn't anything special. For me Britney's magnum opus is and will always be Circus (Womanizer, Circus, Kill The Lights, Shattered Glass, If U Seek Amy, Unusual You, Lace And Leather, Phonography)

I've been getting messages from my deep waters

Literally get ready for great song after song. It’s a no skip album. Every song could have been a single imo.
